Chapter 41- She's fine without me
Gianna3 hours agoI take a sip of my latte and glance at petite blond as she rubs her stomach. Emily looks adorable with her protruding belly. Would I look like that pregnant? I’m just as tiny as her, so I probably will, but I’m not in a rush to find out. Although I'm sure, Carlos would make a great dad, unlike my own. I frown and push thoughts of him away.“Gianna, earth to Gianna!”“Huh” I shift my eyes to Macy, another friend having lunch with us.“Are you coming with us to the registry?”“For the baby?”“Yes, what else could it be? You’re still bird-brained now as you were back then,” she snaps. I take a deep breath. It is the third time she’s made some remark like this today, and my patience is wearing thin.“I’m the one who’s dumb, but I passed the MCAT on the first try, unlike you,” I mumble beneath my breath.“What was that?”

Chapter 42- Your new family
I rub my eyes and glance at her, still lying in bed. It’s almost nine a.m, and she hasn’t woken up or moved at all. The test came back fine, so why isn’t she waking up? “Coffee?” Carlos asks, shoving a cup in my face. I push it away and frown. “Why hasn’t she woken up yet?” “It takes longer for some people, but I can assure you she’s fine.” “If she’s fine, she should be awake by now, and you don’t seem to care!" I growl.  “Papi, how many times have I told you….” a faint voice interjects. “Gia….” “Baby,” Carlos says as he runs over to her side. “Be nice to my boyfriend.” My eyes water as I pull her into my arms. I look up and whisper a silent grateful that my baby's okay. “You scared me,” I say as I bury my face in her head and kiss it. i “Papi, why are you so emotional? What happened to me? The last I remember, I was at home in our closet.” “You overdosed on the painkillers you were taking.”

Chapter 43- The Visitor
Brandi I turn the pipe off, grab a towel, and step out of the shower. Then dry off, head to the v vanity, and take a seat. Tes set it up for me a week ago and bought all my favorite items. He is the best; I sigh as I grab the blow dryer. As I am about to turn it on, I catch the dark circles under my eyes that have appeared because of my lack of sleep since Gianna O.Ded.It’s been a couple of days since then, but I can’t help thinking theirs more to the story than she’s telling us. My gut tells me it wasn't an accident, but I don't want to worry Tes without proof. But the what id of it all keeps me up at night. What if I'm right? And my most fearful thought, What if it happens again, and she doesn’t make it the next time? Chapter 44-The End
Brandi “Tes, let’s break up.” The words fall out of my mouth and hang in the air. For a minute, neither of us moves. My heart pounds as I await his answer, but I already know nothing he says will change the inevitable. Breaking up was always inevitable. A relationship between the two of us was doomed to fail from the start. I bite my lips, holding back the tears that threaten to fall when he finally speaks. “What did you just say?” I can hear the confusion and pain in his voice. “Let’s break up,” I repeat the lines I have practiced saying for the last two hours. I agreed to this. I have to do it for her, but it doesn’t lessen the pain. “You’re joking. Fenice, you’re not serious.” “I am,” I say, my words barely audible. “Fenice. What is this about? I come home; you’re crying. You say there was never a child.” “There wasn’t,” I whisper, my heart shattering again. I thought I would be pregnant soon. I was looking forward to being his wife and having a baby, but now. I sniffle as th

Chapter 45-Happy
“Fenice,” The words leave my mouth before I can stop them. I should call her Brandi, not fenice; we aren't together. She cheated and broke my heart. I have thought about this exact moment many times, seeing her again. I wonder how it would happen. How I would feel and what I would say to someone who broke my heart. But now that it’s here, all I want to do is take in my arms and kiss her. I’m pathetic. I frown as I stare at her. My heart drums in my chest as her familiar scent envelopes me, bringing peace to me that has escaped me these last couple of weeks. “Excuse me, are you getting in or out?” A man comes up behind her and says. “Oh, sorry.” She says and steps aside to allow him to get on while I step off. “I should...” She looks around as if she's confused. “I should go.” She turns to leave. No, she can’t leave. Stop her. A voice says, and without hesitation, I follow, grabbing her hand. “Wait,” I say. She stops and turns to face me, but she looks away as soon as our eyes meet

Chapter 46- Sex now the truth later.
Chapter 46BrandiI watch as Carlos gets on his knees. I’m not surprised because he told me he would prose. But I didn’t know it would be tonight, and I didn't realize Tes would be here sitting across from me. My heart drops as I look at him. I was worried he would drink himself to death after what I did, but he seems fine. “That could be us, someday,” Adam says. He's been nagging me about a date, but I have no interest in dating anyone else. So us getting married would be impossible. There is only one man I want to marry, the one person I’m not allowed to marry. I close my eyes as I remember his last kiss, the last touch. I miss him so much. I...I can’t do this. I can’t be here. I shuffle to my feet as she says yes.“Where are you going?” Adam asks.“I… I need air.” I shuffle to the door, pull it open just as the first tear falls. Should it still hurt so much? After wee

Chapter 47- Sick
Giovanni The early sounds of morning break the silence that’s permeated the room since she fell asleep on top of me. We made love for hours after getting back to her hotel room, and then she passed out exhausted. While I haven't been able to sleep because I think she may disappear. So I've spent the last six hours watching her sleep.I smile as I remember the warmth of her kisses and touch from earlier. I have missed her so much, so one look at her in that red dress at the bar, and all thoughts of reason left the room. Even now, I crave her. I want to be buried deep within her, but I know I need to focus on my reason for being here. After all. I came here for the truth. After leaving Gia’s apartment, I spent the rest of the night asking questions I didn’t ask when she ended things. I didn’t look into where she had been. I didn’t ask how she met Cole after all this time, and I never questioned her, saying she didn&

Chapter 48-Goodbye
GiovanniAfter telling a nurse that fenice is up, I head down to the cafeteria to pick something up for her to eat. I know she might not be feeling up to it, but she has to eat, especially now that she’s carrying our child. I smile as I grab a soup, a bottle of orange juice, and an apple. We’ll have to see a gynecologist when we get back. I wonder if Phil is still practicing? He delivered Gia when she was born, but he was older back then, so he’s probably not taking new patients. I enter the elevator and think of everything we need to prepare. I’m going to be a dad again in my 50s. It will be a challenge to keep up, but I can handle it if I stay in shape. The elevator stops and opens. I look up as two men wearing suits and shades look in, then step back. You can enter Mayor French. Before I can react, he steps into the elevator, Theodore French. My jaw tightens as our eyes meet. “There’s someone in this one, boys. Let&rs

Chapter 49-What I want.
Gia I frown as I see the missed calls from Brandi. She’s called me five times today, but unless she’s going to keep her promise, I don’t want to speak to her. I shove my phone in my purse and slip out of my car. It’s been a long day, and I want to enjoy a nice bubble bath and forget about the long day. I spin, suddenly feel someone behind me, and breathe a sigh of relief when I see it’s only dad. “Papi, you scared me.” “What did you say to fenice?” “What?” Oh, he’s talking about Brandi. Of course, it’s about her. I roll my eyes. “I haven’t spoken to her all day, but is that your reason for showing up here?” “At the hospital when I went to get the doctors. What did you say to her?” my heart sinks. Did she tell him? No, if she did, he wouldn’t be asking. She was probably still crying those fake tears, and he saw them. “I told her to get better soon,” I say innocently, hoping he would accept it and change the subject. “Are you going to lie to me about this, too?” What does he me

Chapter 50- A bitch no more.
“B, it’s been a week, and you still haven’t called me back. I miss you. Papi misses you too. I still don’t get what you see in Papi, but I want to understand. And I know I’ve apologized a couple of times, but I hope you know I’m sorry. I haven’t been much of a friend to you these past couple of months, maybe ever. I plan to change and make it up to you, so you have to come back. Please B, call me back.” I sigh and end the call as Carlos walks through the door. He's finally made me realize that this was never about me. And even though I'm not entirely happy they are dating, I recognize their happiness is more important than any mild discomfort.  “Nothing?” Carlos asks, pulling me back to the present. I shake my head and sigh. “No. My messages are still unread, and she hasn't returned any of my calls.” “Keep trying.” He says as he hands me a stack of mail. “I know, but I’m worried. She made Amber the managing partner of her company before she
