Chapter 31
Thoughts of constantly running and hiding with a young cub in shitty pubs and other less desirable places flooded her mind like a bad dream. On the heel of those thoughts, however, were those that imagined what would happen if Dylan got his hands on her and the cub. It wasn’t unheard of for an alpha to get rid of a cub that was not his in order to claim a mate. It came from their animal DNA. A violent shudder hit her body even as the wolf in her rose close to her skin, ready to protect and defend what was hers. She would never allow any harm to come to her cub. Suddenly Asher stepped towards her, closing the distance that had separated them and grabbed her shoulders in his firm hands. It wasn’t aggressive, so she didn’t freak out. It was as though he just wanted to make sure he had her full attention. That wasn’t a problem. He had her full attention. Her entire body flowed with awareness. The ugly thoughts faded away and her only focus

Chapter 32
There was a thick silence in the room. It was deafening. Mia gave herself a few mental slaps for her slip.  After what felt like forever in which, Mia tried to think of anything to say and came up blank. It was Asher that broke the silence. “Why is it too late to take precautions?” he asked cautiously. His eyes never left her face, as though he was trying to read the answer to his question in her eyes. Although there was already something in his eyes that suggested he knew the answer to his own question. He was a smart man. There weren’t many ways her words could be interpreted. Mia looked away, unable to continue reading the different emotions that crossed his face. Damn it. That was not how she had imagined breaking the news to him. Not even in her wildest imagination had she pictured it like this. She considered dodging the discussion or making something up to throw him off what he was obviously putting together in his head, but

Chapter 33
“In short,” Asher started in a low, measured tone. “What you are simply saying… is that you can’t tell me anything.” He raised his hands and counted his fingers as he spoke. “Not why your family is after you... You won’t tell me who your family is or what they even do, or why you ran from home in the first place.” He grabbed a fourth finger, his anger very visible at this point. “Not who found you through me and caused you to run from my home. Or even how they managed to make the connection… I am still puzzled about that one, by the way. And lastly, but not the very least, you can’t even tell me… Correction... Let me rephrase that. You can’t even promise that you won’t run again. Even though you are carrying my child. Have I missed anything?” The silence that fell in the room following his count of all the information she refused to give stretched uncomfortably. Mia was past the point of explaining herself. There was nothing she could say to hi

Chapter 34
Like a very satisfied woman, Mia sighed peacefully in her sleep. She could feel a warm body next to her that smelled so good and made her want to rub herself all over it. Even though she could feel her sleep fading away, she desperately tried to hold on to it and just enjoy the moment. Then a cool breeze blew over her skin, causing a shudder to run up her spine. Mia reluctantly woke up and opened her eyes. The cool air did not add up with what she had been enjoying. She paused and took a moment to orient herself to her surroundings. The scent in the room and feel of the sheets against her skin immediately grounded her.  She was in Asher’s bed, wrapped in his firm arms. Asher was deep in sleep. She could tell from his even breathing, but his arms still tightened around her when she tried to move away from him. As though even in his unconscious mind, he was still trying to make sure she didn’t leave again and disappear into the night.

Chapter 35
Asher had the mother of all headaches pounding insistently at his temples. It was as though a tiny mad man had been handed a hummer and told to torture him; he thought. And although he was mostly out of it and dazed from the pain, he could feel the rough hands of at least two men drag him out of the car they had been travelling in. He wasn’t sure how long they had been driving, but it must have been hours because compared to the darkness of night in which they had left his house; wherever it was that they had arrived hours later, the sun was up in the sky and bright. He had woken a few times during the drive. And each time, he had noticed how quiet Mia had been. He hadn’t heard her say a word, not even when the men in the car had accused her of causing so much trouble. Most of what they had said made little sense to him. He blamed most of his confusion on his aching head, but some of it was just weird. He had heard comments about packs

Chapter 36
A totally stupid, still rebellious part of her wanted to ask her father what exactly he meant. The words ‘did what?’ danced on her tongue, but she swallowed them before they tumbled out and put more fuel to the fire. She wondered if the angry alpha would spell out in detail what he knew with his nose his daughter had done with the human. It was indeed a very tempting idea just to spite the man further. However, that would be a dangerous game to play. Besides, it was just impossible to play dumb about something anyone with a nose could catch. What the alpha had caught in the air the instant he neared Asher was the scent of their bond. Her scent was all over Asher, just as his scent was all over her. It was intertwined, as only a scent of mates could be. Faced with her father’s rage, Mia lifted her chin defiantly and looked him in the eyes. The simple action was enough of an answer to his angry question. In a swift motion, on

Chapter 37
Asher blinked. His brain was having a seriously hard time understanding the data it was receiving. “It’s not possible,” he murmured quietly. He shook his head as though it would help his head process what he was seeing better. It didn’t help. And no one paid him any attention or the confusion he was experiencing. They focused all eyes on the two wolves that growled at each other. One of which he couldn’t believe, but knew was Mia’s father. Who was the other wolf? Asher suddenly wondered. In the back of his mind, he knew, but he didn’t want to accept it. He looked at the black wolf standing over his legs. Its black fur almost glittered in the sunshine. The line of red fur on its back all the way to its tail was very telling. So were the shredded clothes on the ground. Still, Asher refused to acknowledge it. It just wasn’t possible. Tension increased around them. Soon it was obvious growling wasn’t the only thing the wolves were going to

Chapter 38
A man stalking towards the center of the gathered crowd accompanied the gravelly voice that had spoken. Asher turned his head to look at the newcomer. He didn’t even know what to expect anymore. This had been the weirdest day of his life. The man was as tall as him, from what Asher could access, and looked to be around his age as well. But that was where Asher acknowledged the similarities ended. Asher was no skin and bone, but the man he was looking at had shockingly huge shoulders and arms. His body tapered into a narrow waist, then huge thighs. He looked like a bodybuilder on steroids. The kind everyone warnded to stay away from. After what Asher had seen of Levi’s wolf, he had to wonder what this man’s beast would look like and if he actually wanted to find out. Because he had no doubt the man was also part animal. Then the man’s words hit him. Asher frowned. He realized the man had to be the Dylan that had been mentioned just

Chapter 39
Asher gave his teeth a painful workout, grinding them against each other to stop himself from talking. For a man used to being in control and giving orders, this was a tall order.  Asher knew he was not the typical billionaire businessman. He had tattoos and loved riding his bikes. He felt more comfortable with a little grease on his hands than in a board room surrounded by tycoons in suits, ties and expensive Italian shoes. But in that moment Asher would have taken a ten hour boring meeting with the worst competitors in the business. That was preferable to being dragged by Connor into the warehouse. The warehouse was large, old and mostly empty, but what Asher noticed the most was the dust that covered every surface in sight, and the thick chains that came out of the walls like spider legs.  The windows high up, almost touching the ceiling, provided enough light to make everything crystal clear and creepy. Ash

Chapter 40
Mia’s heart wasn’t breaking. No, that would have been far too much better. What was happening was it was being ripped out of her chest. She literally felt like her heart was pushing its way out of her chest through her ribs, cracking them painfully one at a time in the process. Fates be damned. She had known it would be really ugly if they got caught by her pack. Hell, it was the very reason she had fought so hard to not let it happen, Mia thought. Yet, somehow, she had been prepared for it, but Asher was not. Asher wasn’t even a wolf. This wasn’t his fight. He wasn’t even equipped for it. How well could a human handle such a situation? She wondered. Of course, she knew compared to other humans, Asher could hold his own. But compared to werewolves or any other shifter, it was a sad joke. She humphed, not happy with her own thoughts. They were depressing and only agitated her more. Mia stood up and began to pace up and down her old room like the
