Chapter 20
It is possible to die from heartbreak. That is why so many perish after their soul mates have. But I'm not into medicine or therapy. Therapy meant I'd have to be reasonable and understanding and by nature, I was a very unreasonable person. Medicine on the other hand couldn't fix everything. Because if it could then I'd swallow a bottle of whatever potion that would help heal this hole in my chest. The sound of whistling broke my reverie and I looked at Joshua who stood against the house with yearning eyes for Alex – who wasn't going to give him a second glance since she knew exactly where he stood while she poured a circle of salt on the ground around Gina and Hannah. I would also offer this miracle potion to Joshua. I'd offer it to anyone with a broken heart with a daily dose of never fall in love pills. But as Hera would tell me, falling in love was like catching a bad cold. 'One day you're

Chapter 21
A prickly feeling almost as if tiny ants were crawling up my hands and legs made me rub my sweaty palms on my faded jeans as the car broke through the forest turning into the driveway of the pack house."You know you don't have to be a wolf for me to know when something is wrong with you," Creed said, and I kept my eyes on my lap as the car came to a stop. The car ride was mostly silent. I was too busy anticipating what I was going to say to everyone. "I feel terrible." There was no point in lying to him about my guilt."You were always too hard on yourself as a child. The easiest teenager I've met. You reprimanded yourself the moment you knew you did something wrong. Do you remember the pranks you and Jordan played on me?" He laughed.I felt myself at ease at the memory. "We took it too far sometimes.""I agree after the frog in my boot," he chuckled causing me to smile and some of those prickling ants to fade.I held myself from laughing, "El felt bad for the frog. She told me it was

Chapter 22
"Tell me a story," Mia said, settling under the covers. "What kind of story?" I sat at the edge of her bed, "I know red riding hood, Goldilocks and the three bears or three little pigs." "I don't know," she shrugged, "something filled with adventure and danger." "Mia, you live with wolves it doesn't get any more adventurous than that." "The most adventure I have here is sitting on dad's back when he is a wolf." "Hey, that's more than some kids get. You got a dad who can also be a pet," I said and she giggled."What color do you think my fur would be when I shift?" She asked catching me off guard. I went silent. How did Elias manage to lie to her. She was a sweet kid and I was sure she would understand if they told her the truth. "Red," I smiled. Hopefully, she would forgive me one day but it was not my place to tell her. "I'm hoping for pink," she smiled goofily." "Mia," I snorted and she let out a yawn. She was tired but refused to sleep. "I would have to settle for red.

Chapter 23
I opened my eyes to see Levi laying beside me. He was flipping through a book and I sat up confused about how he ended up in my bed. "Good, you're awake," he said, keeping his eyes fixed on the book. "What are you doing in my room?" I murmured. "Reading," was his arrogant response. "I can see that, but why in my room?" He rolled his eyes and shut the book, sitting up to look at me. "I heard you moaning in your sleep early hours of the morning." "Where is El?" I asked, "did she see you come in here?" "No, I saw your brother carrying her to their room." "So you sneak into my bed, not thinking that my brothers will barge in at any moment." How could he not see how this would look. "You have your clothes on," he said, his eyes dropping to what I was wearing. "It's a shame you can't sleep in those shorts and vest in Scotland," he grinned. "You're a pig," I turned over not wanting to deal with his antics and just sleep since I couldn't sleep last night. "Yet you still in be

Chapter 24
It was a beautiful sunny day and my family as per usual on sunny days like this— where the sun wasn't too hot and the wind was just right— took advantage of nature's kindness and had a picnic. Eleanora and Hera were making hot dogs on the grill. While Levi was keeping Mia and Parker occupied by playing a game of catch. My brothers were at the docks handling the shipping company they ran together. They got along okay with Levi. They all weren't best friends but at least they weren't trying to kill each other and that was all I could ask for. Baby steps.I sat on the stairs sipping iced lemonade with my shades covering my eyes as I watched Levi chase Mia and Parker around. Something I can scratch off my 'never thought I would see' list. Levi was different here, maybe it was the fact that he was playing in the sun, and not clinging to the shadows or maybe it was how carefree he looked. How human he appeared to be. I would be lying if I said I loved before Levi and I'd be a liar if

Chapter 25
When I stepped onto the Brookburgh campus again, I felt different. I felt the way I should have felt on my first day, optimistic and ready to face any academic challenge. Even first semester exams. I spent a week cramming everything I could into my head and when the time came I sat for my finals with Alex and Gina by my side. I had to admit it felt strange being in a lecture room. I barely saw Levi since we got back from Arizona and I thought he was giving me space to focus on my exams, but it had been two days after my exams, and still no sign of him. I was starting to think he left the school and I didn't want to ask Hannah because if he did I wouldn't know what to do next. I sat on my bed holding the heart-shaped rock he gave me. The memory of it all felt so distant but every time I closed my eyes and thought of every kiss we shared it was like I could feel it. I could grasp it and hold onto it but there was only so far a memory could sustain happiness and I had to pray ever

Chapter 26
Levi took me into his room and shut the door. "Go to sleep." He shrugged off his black coat and threw it at the armchair in the corner of the room.I was still buzzing from the alcohol. "Why don't you go to sleep." I fell backward onto the bed.He sighed, loudly. "May," his voice was low, "I would appreciate it if you don't sass me right now." He sat down on the bed next to me. "I have to go out there and deal with my father. Please do me a favor and behave."I mounted him, straddling his lap and he didn't look surprised. "What are you doing?" He asked in a flat tone of voice.I pecked his lips, looking into his eyes and that was enough for me to want more and tug on his bottom lip with my teeth. He licked my bottom lip and kissed me softly not giving into his full passion. He pulled away. "Can you go to sleep now?" He asked breathily, trying to control himself."Kiss me properly first."I kissed him again running my hands under his shirt and over his cold abs. "May," he said between

Chapter 27
I sat at the kitchen island, watching Alex and Josh prepare breakfast. The tension in the room was suffocating and any attempt I tried to make to start a conversation was answered in grunts and shrugs. Josh deliberately moved away every time Alex got too close, almost as if being too close was burning him alive. Josh wanted to be with Alex but other than supernatural forces threatening his life for it, she was the mate of a werewolf— further complicating their relationship. I wasn't hungry after my unsuccessful conversation with Levi, but Alex and Josh both insisted on breakfast, and I knew better than to argue with another angry vampire as well as a fuming witch, that could turn me into a frog with a single hand gesture. Alex placed a stack of pancakes in front of me. "Eat up," she dusted her hands, "I can't guarantee it will be as good as yours." Joshua moved to the fridge grabbing jars of berries and other fruits and juices, as well as a tomato. "I'm surprised there are so man

Chapter 28
Darkness was consuming, deceitful and blinding. "Where am I?" I thought aloud. The sound of my shoes kept me company, from the soundless madness. "Hello?"I began to panic this was becoming too weird. I took off running but where was I going to run to? I was hoping I'd hit something eventually running in a straight line. There would have to be a wall, a tree, or anything. But running was pointless. There was no end and no beginning to the darkness. The sound of a child giggling git my head to snap up again. "Hello" I called after the child."Marco," I heard the child whisper and I swallowed hard at the familiarity in his voice. "Marco," he called again stunning me into silence."Jake?" The name fell out of my mouth instantly. "is that really you?""No, that's not how you play," he said walking out of the darkness. "I say Marco and you say polo, May.""You're alive," I smiled and he looked down at the ground. "But where are we? How can I see you but nothing else?""Did you ever forget m

Chapter 29
Hannah was gone, and I wasn't human anymore. In less than twenty-four hours all our lives changed majorly stunning all of us into silence. The silence wasn't even awkward, there was no where to start the conversation. So silence would just have to do. I walked to Levi's room to take a minute to gather my thoughts. I was starting to feel myself again –emotionally– but it felt like I now had an alter ego. My vampire side that would take control at the scent of human blood. I had no control over it. The blood left my mind with no room to reason. It was a demanding, self-consuming force and I was afraid because I didn't know who this other half of me was or how far it was going to go to get that drop of blood. It was safer for the students if I didn't go outside for a while. The last thing I wanted was a mass slaughter on my hands. I was so used to protecting the school from threats and now I was one of their biggest threats. I shut the bedroom door behind me and fell back on the bed.
