81. Signing the contract
[Zeve’s POV] Hearing he was already preparing for the heir created a strangling suffocation inside of me. I don’t know why my heart hurt just at the thought of him being with some other woman. Of course, he had a life before meeting me. No wonder he has someone he loves, and here I was thinking Amor couldn’t love someone ever. What a ridiculous thought! “Preparing your heir? Does that mean you are married secretly? I-Is she your mate or secret lover? I mean, do you have someone you love? Since it’s business between us, it’d be great if we are as transparent as we can… to each other…” I said, hesitantly. “Wait, what?” Amor tensed his brows. Morfan had a faint smirk on his face, making me even uncomfortable. Was it true then? “Where is all this coming from, Zeve? A secret marriage? A secret lover?” He chuckled in his dark tone. “Do you think with my rank it is possible to have a secret marriage or a lover or a mate without public knowledge?” Nibbling my lower lip, I lifted my g

82. Polaris' truth
[Zeve’s POV] A week passed since that day I contracted my fate with him. Amor was slowly recovering from his wounds. Thanks to Lucella, he was gradually getting back to his normal self. He could walk around for a maximum of five hours, but after that, his spinal pain would kick in. Whenever that happened, he came into my room, and I understood he needed a back massage. Sometimes my heart would flutter at his angry pouts just like a kid. I wanted to pull his cheek and pat his head, but I dared not. Even though he hated taking others’ help, I was glad he could ask me without hesitation. It made me feel special knowing that he was opening up to me. That didn’t mean he wasn’t suffering internally. I was worried about his mental health because not being able to shift into one’s wolf was a big deal. Through his words, I learnt he was worried he might never shift again. If that happened, he would have to retire from his Alpha’s position, and that was something Amor wasn’t looking forw

83. Tattered ends of fate
[Zeve’s POV] I stepped back. I wasn’t able to process what I just heard. It hit like a numbing shock that corrupted all my senses. I gaped at Morfan, blankly. “Are you in your right mind? Do you know what you are saying?” Amor growled, holding Morfan’s collar. “Please trust me, Alpha. I will never lie about something like this. Yes, I hid the truth about Polaris’ death, but it was important back then. I was waiting for Zahir to tell the truth to you since he was the one who asked me to keep it a secret from the two of you.” I numbly peered at Morfan. Hoping for him to part his lips and tell that this was a lie. Amor left Morfan and held his head. He tried to blink off his tears, but still I could see the glint of tears in his eyes. “I apologise for keeping this from the two of you, but I hope you understand why Zahir asked me to do it and why I did it. Bringing back both of you in your best conditions was our priority, and it was important for our future, too.” Morfan held his

84. Amor's past-1
[Zeve’s POV] Lucella still didn’t talk to me, but it seemed her anger had subsided. Her tone had become calmer, and she slowly approached me. She was worried about my health because I got motion sickness on the ship. That was my first experience of sailing on a ship and it was anything but pleasant. Lucella was gentle to the patients except Amor, who gave her a hard time. I bet she would even cure her enemy gently if he was weak and needed aid of any kind. That was the divine spirit of doctors who were called the shadow of gods. “Keep sleeping and eat lighter food, ok?” she said, and I nodded, lying on the wooden bed of the ship. From the time we set off on the premarital journey to the time we reached the Trimontum islands it took us almost three months. So many things had happened that I felt like I had lived my whole life in those three months. It took only three months to not only change my life but also me. The amount of waves that had hit the shore of my life were to

85. Amor's past-2
[Zeve’s POV] “Amor or lady Ella never talk about the forest. They just say that the forest is for the strong to get stronger and for the weak to die. They spent twelve years in the Frost Forests, completely abandoned by Alpha Diell…” I peered at Amor. People were like icebergs. What they showed to the world was nothing before the depth they hid from the world. It was impossible to tell how broken someone was just by looking at them. I was lonely because I had no parents, but Amor had been all alone even after having parents. It made me wonder who was the unlucky one here. Me or him? “Amor never received his coming of age ceremony. Because Alpha Diell had decided that his kid from Dawn would become the next heir. But every time Dawn got pregnant, something or the other led to her miscarriage…” I shifted my gaze to Lucella. “People say that she was deliberately inducing those miscarriages, and this created another rumble of rumours. But her last miscarriage was the one that took

86. Wanderlust
[Zeve’s POV] The picturesque snowy terrains were like a white paradise. They had the flowy wisps of snow scattering in the air like fog even at the slightest winds. The snow had blanketed the grounds in shades of grey and black, like cotton. Sometimes my eyes were on the highest peak, faintly visible on the horizon and sometimes around me, on the fir forests where the viridian leaves looked as if they were painted with pure white paint. I was so busy looking around everywhere else that I missed my footings several times, either tripping on rocks beneath the ankle-deep snow or sliding on grounds covered with ice. Amor wrapped intertwined his fingers with mine and a wave of warmth ran through my body. I was once again looking around restlessly, but this time to distract myself from what his fingers locked with mine did to my heart and soul. He didn’t ask me to stop looking around, nor did he scold me when I almost fell face-down. He just held my hand tightly as we walked and saved

87. Declaration of marriage
[Zeve’s POV] Lucella and Morfan looked at the snowystal in Amor’s tunic and had an undecipherable expression on their faces. The soldiers too averted their eyes as soon as I looked at them. What does this mean now? Did I do something strange? I thought. But I couldn’t ask any of them because no one was talking. Even the horses were silent. More than the cold, that silence was bone-chilling. In an hour, we reached the stately palace built on the curves of the mountains. The horses and the soldiers went to rest in the cavalry quarters of the palace. The palace itself was a piece of art for being on a mountain like that. I couldn’t stop looking around because the palace looked like it was carved out of crystals. It made me feel I had teleported inside a fantasy novel. No matter how much I tried to concentrate, I was always distracted by something or the other. Sometimes it was the designs carved on the walls, sometimes the still life and landscape paintings, sometimes the unique

88. I wanted peace
[Zeve’s POV] Amor didn’t sit beside me on the throne. I was sitting there alone while he stood beside me the whole time. I tried to avoid those glowing eyes that were burning with questions, but whenever I looked at them, I got goosebumps all over my body. “Calm down, don’t be nervous,” Amor whispered. “Easy for you to say. I am shivering with my bones right now. Why are you doing this? Why won’t you sit on the throne? I am not even your luna yet.” I looked at him. “Don’t look at me,” he said, and I shifted my gaze to the gathering that was enjoying the gentle music flowing into the room. “There are reasons you won’t understand. Just play along, ok?” “You didn’t even tell me there would be a ceremony like this when we get here,” I whispered to him with a fake smile that addressed the glaring eyes on me. He stretched out his hand in front of me. “May I have the honour of having the first dance of the ceremony with you, Princess Zeve Freedom?” “What? A dance? But I am not prepa

89. Bury my love
[Zeve’s POV] “Amor didn’t tell you about the Sylvia purification ritual?” Lady Ella asked. Lady Ella came to my room early in the morning and it had been three hours since she had been preparing my room, clothes, and bath. I sat on the bed in a thin white bathing gown, and she sat beside me. “Sylvia purification ritual? What is that, your highness?” I asked her, tilting my head. She sighed. She looked angry. “I don’t even know if he is planning to honour our rituals and culture or marry you just for the sake of marrying you. I don’t understand, Zeve. Why are you still with him? When he said he would go on the premarriage journey with you, I thought maybe you would escape…” I slowly slid my hand over hers. “Your highness,” I smiled faintly. “I consent to this marriage.” She furrowed her brows. “Even after what he did to you and your pack? Even after he disrespected you in front of our entire family? How can you?” “Your highness, he didn’t mean to rip my clothes. It was an acc

90. The first slip
[Zeve’s POV] “Don’t worry, Zeve. If he doesn’t come? I will get you ready. My florists are already creating the flower jewels. I know Amor should be the one doing this, but his representative can do it as well. There is no problem.” Even though she smiled, I could see disappointment and sadness in her eyes. “Mother. I am happy,” I smiled. She returned my smile. “Your highness, the holy bath is ready,” a maid said with a bow. Lady Ella held my hands and led me to the grand bathtub. There was a faint scent of lavender fuming from the hot bath. It was covered with rose and jasmine petals. I descended the stairs holding lady Ella’s hand and submerged myself in the comforting, warm and tranquil bath. The water felt different from normal water. It was as if I was in the Healer pool. “We’ll leave now, Zeve. Let your hair dry on its own, ok?” “Yes, mother.” Mother and the other maids left my room. Rethinking about the Healer pool brought back all those memories with Amor. Heat and
