Chapter 61
Clementine I stretched as I rolled out of Liam’s bed, my legs felt like Jell-O, and my body ached from being pleasured repeatedly. I smiled as I looked in the mirror and saw my flushed face, messy hair, and bright turquoise eyes flickering with amber. My wolf was preening and looked positively smitten with what we had spent the last several hours doing. We hardly got any sleep, but it was more than worth it. I ran my fingers through my hair to try and untangle some of the knots and instantly knew it was a losing battle. I walked into Liam’s ensuite and climbed into his shower, aiming the shower head lower and giggling softly at our height difference as I turned the tap handle to scolding hot. I groaned as the hot water hit my body’s sore spots. I looked at the small purple marks over my breasts and smiled. He loved marking my skin, and I realized I liked it too. I liked the raw passion, feeling wanted, feeling safe and protected. I stopped examining the bruises and looked back at Ci

Chapter 62
Liam She slowly pulled off me and gave me a sultry smile. I put my fingers up and gently ran them over the proudly glowing mark on my neck. It tingled to the touch, but there was no pain. Her saliva had sealed the venom inside. The bruise and teeth marks would last a few days before my werewolf healing would eventually kick in. And then she’ll just have to mark me again, and again, until the next full moon. The idea excited me, and her turquoise eyes flashed at me knowingly. The scent between us was deep and infused, and I couldn’t be happier. I gently grabbed her by the back of her head and pulled her toward my face, kissing her deeply. Mine. Her instincts were finally beginning to be more werewolf than human. Even though I wanted to keep Clem’s passionate nature all to myself and away from prying eyes, her provocative instincts made me feel insurmountable pride. She was so fucking perfect. The bush had been full of werewolves. She knew that, but she didn’t care. She had one thin

Clementine Circe grumbled as I tried to cover my mark with my hair. She found it incredibly insulting that I would do such a thing. I tried to tell her that I found it unprofessional to attend work with a hickey, and she just scoffed. “That’s human thinking, Clementine. Did you see Ryan hiding Stacey’s mark? Do you see anyone else hiding their mate’s mark?” “At least the mate mark is subtle. This is a gigantic purple bruise.” “The mating mark starts as a purple bruise too.” She rolled her eyes. “I thought you were excited about his mark. Do I need to remind you how turned on you got thinking about it? Or how turned on you were when he was physically marking you? You wanted this.” “I did.” “Then why are you so anxious about showing the world you got what you wanted.” “If Nola sees it–” “That bitch is beneath us.” Circe rolled her eyes. “She’s going to smell it anyway. So, you may as well hold your head high and show it off. Don’t let her or your anxiety win. Show her that even

Chapter 64
Liam The pack was abuzz with the news that I was taking over as alpha. Dad had sent out a pack announcement a few hours ago, and I already had an exhausting number of people congratulating me down the mind-link, making it very hard to concentrate on the alpha duties I had in front of me. I understood being the alpha would come with distractions, and I honestly didn’t mind them, especially if they came from my challenging but perfect mate. She had almost distracted me from my duties earlier when I felt her desire through our bond. But it had been silent ever since. I frowned. She hadn’t contacted me when she heard the news. I wondered if Lupus’ patrons were giving her a hard time. I reached down the mate bond and was surprised to feel she was closer than the bar. I quickly finished my job and pushed myself out from behind my desk. I left the office and went straight to her house. I found her sitting on the window seat in her room, enjoying the afternoon sun. “Everything okay?” I ask

Chapter 65
Clementine Liam gripped his father’s hand, and both men erupted into a large orange glow. The air around them shimmered with power, and Liam started to grow larger as if it were possible. He was already a muscly, marbled god, but now, his shoulders seemed to become slightly broader with the power of an alpha. His arm muscles bulged out of the short sleeves of his button-down, and the buttons began to strain with his chest getting wider. The alpha power whooshed throughout the amphitheatre, taking away my breath for a second. Liam’s scent and power wafted over to me, and the mate bond vibrated, making me clench my legs together to hold back a moan of pleasure that rocketed through me. Circe wagged her tail and yipped excitedly as she witnessed her mate’s metamorphosis. Liam and Josiah had stopped glowing, and I knew it was finished. Liam confirmed that by sending out a mighty howl that connected everyone in the pack. I had no choice but to return it, as did the rest of the pack. I wa

Chapter 66
Liam I heard screaming. However, it sounded as though it was under bubbling, hot, steaming water. Intense vertigo spun in and out, making me feel much like Alice falling down the rabbit hole. It made me want to puke, but I was in too much pain to give into the urge. I tried to grab onto Lucian as I tumbled headfirst into the abyss. I couldn’t feel him. All I could sense was hot, burning pain searing through my stomach and over my body. My body wanted to shift, and I couldn’t figure out why this shift was so painful, but worse than that, I didn’t understand why I couldn’t reach Lucian. I tried to breathe through the pain, but red lava poured into my throat and closed off my airway. It filled my lungs until there wasn’t any room. It spewed out of my lungs like a geyser and into my heart, which pumped it into the rest of my limbs before it solidified like concrete. Everything was heavy. I couldn’t lift my arms. I couldn’t even open my eyes. Honeysuckle and pear. I could smell Clementi

Chapter 67
Clementine As Liam lay in bed, pale and covered in a cold sweat, I had a horrible sense of déjà vu. There was no smell of chemo, no impending death, but the feeling was the same. The first time I watched someone I loved dying I couldn’t do anything about it. This time, I would do everything I could to save him. My arm still hurt from where I shoved the central venous cannula into my vein, almost piercing through the other side. That didn’t matter, though. What mattered was that Liam needed blood, and I needed to give it to him. All of it if that’s what it was going to take. After he was stitched up, placed into our bed, and hooked up to monitors, my dad suggested that I have a shower. I had shaken my head vehemently in refusal. I couldn’t leave him. What if I was showering and he– Dad, unfortunately, didn’t take no for an answer. I stepped into the enormous ensuite but left the door open a crack so I could hear what was going on in the bedroom. Circe’s possessive side had come thr

Chapter 68
Liam I shifted in my seat and grimaced at the pain in my stomach. I knew this injury was going to take some time to heal. Even under the watchful eye of my fussing mate, it would take more than a week to get me back on my feet. My first official pack meeting was going to shit, too. I listened as Dad and Patrick argued heatedly, letting them hash it out like an old married couple, but I didn’t intervene. I needed to hear this as much as they needed to argue. “I told you when you were alpha that those blood-haters were dangerous. Your gentle approach put my children at risk, Josiah. Again!” Patrick spat. “And I told you that killing isn’t the answer! That’s how Jed ruled the pack. Do you not remember how many pack members he executed for small misdemeanours? Do you not remember how we lived in fear that he would get bored and start killing us for sport?” “Of course, I fucking remember, Jos, but there’s a difference between executing people for misdemeanors and crimes like attempted

Clementine “He’s my true mate, Brady. I’ll never let you dishonour him by marking me. I’ll kill you first.” I coughed out as he continued to drive. “Oh, honey. I would like to see you try and fight with the wolfsbane running through your system.” “He’s going to wake up and figure it out,” I glossed. It didn’t seem like a good idea to tell Brady that Liam was already awake and was strong enough to heal without my constant presence. “That’s fine too. Maybe I’ll let you gain your wolf enough so he can feel you and track you. Or maybe I’ll just torture you and let him feel that. He’ll heroically and foolishly come to your aid. And I’m sure I can handle one weakened alpha. He’ll be dead soon enough, regardless what I decide.” “He’ll come with his warriors, Brady.” He chuckled deeply as he turned onto an old highway that travelled into the mountains. I tried to reach Liam. He would be freaking out the moment he realized I was gone. I had to keep trying. I even tried contacting other

Chapter 70
Liam Half an hour later and the meeting had disbanded. Ryan and Stacey had taken off with a couple of trackers from the warrior squad. Patrick went to inform Vinny about what had happened, and Jerome and Dad helped me organize an urgent meet with the entire pack for this afternoon. Even though it was the middle of the afternoon, it was getting cooler now in the fall air. The mountains and thick forest made it almost impossible for the sun to warm up the valley. The sun tried desperately to shine through the trees, but it was met with an invisible frosty wall that couldn’t be penetrated. The chill in the air was almost foreboding, making me feel like I would never be warm again. Patio heaters and gas barbecues were lit up throughout the grounds. I smiled at the pack members as they filed in, wearing their summery clothes as if they were oblivious to the changes in the temperature. I smiled at the five hundred odd people who had turned up. Five hundred wolves would be enough to start
