Faith Is All You Need
"How long has Allan Mitchell been abusing you?"I have been sitting on the couch at the Knight's home, facing two police officers. I have only been from the hospital seven hours, before they got here.I didn't know that talking about my abuse would be so hard. Just thinking about it was making memories that I wish I didn't remember flash through my mind. I felt Carson squeezed my hand in reassurance and I looked up at him. I was glad that he was here with me. I didn't think that I could do this alone.I looked towards the officer who had asked the question. He was blonde and probably in his forties. He had a kind and understanding look on his face. "Six months after my mother died two years ago." I answered. He wrote on the small notepad that was in his hands, before looking at me again. "Has he ever hit your mother?"I shook my head. "No. At least I don't think so. I've never seen him hit her before."He nodded his head and then his partner spoke up. His partner was dark skinned and

Moving On
It was now a day before New Year's Eve. I was in the kitchen helping Marilyn cook dinner, when I heard the doorbell ring. I told Marilyn that I would get it as she had given Ms. Nordia and Linda the holidays off.I opened the door to see a woman standing on the other side. She looked me over, a kind smile on her face. "Hello, are you Kayla?"I nodded my head and looked at her curiously. "Yes."The woman's smile light up and her brown eyes sparkled. I couldn't shake the idea that I knew her somehow. There was something about her black hair that was caught up into a bun at the back of her head and in the way she smiled. "Oh my! Look at you!" She exclaimed. "You have grown into a beautiful young lady." "Who are you?" I asked."I'm Eloise Green-Russell. I'm Tristan's older sister." She explains.I looked at her in shock. She was my father's sister? I couldn't believe it. All this time I thought I didn't have any relatives nearby or one that even cared about me."You're my aunt?" I asked,

Epilogue 1
In Loving Memory Of: Lydia-Marie James Mitchell. Loving wife and mother. March 5, 1979-June 30, 2014~~~Once met, never forgotten. Uncompromisingly unique. Generous of heart, constant of faith. Remembered with love. I read the writings displayed on my mother's gravestone. I look at the orchids that I brought, before I laid it on the grave. She loved all flowers, but orchids were her favourite. I looked over at the grave beside hers. It was my father's. She was buried right beside him and for some reason, I know that they were both happy. It was a Saturday, the fifth of March, her birthday. It has now been a tradition to visit her grave on her birthday to bring a different flower. It has been three years since she passed, so it was now her third birthday not spent alive. I still miss her a lot, but I know she wouldn't want me to be sad forever. She would want me to move on with my life and be happy. After spending a couple more minutes with my mother and father, I walked over to

Two Years Later ****** "Together we can make it to the end of the line. Your love is like a shadow on me all of the time! I don't know what to do I'm always in the dark. We're living in a powder keg and giving off sparks!" I groan loudly and turn around on my bed to glare at Jasmine. She was over on her bed with her headphones plugged into her ear. She was singing loudly and bobbing her head to the music she was listening to, unaware of the nuisance she was causing. "I really need you tonight. Forever is gonna start tonight..." She continued. "Jasmine!" I shouted, but with her back to me and the headphones in her ear, she didn't hear me. "Jasmine!" I tried louder. "...Once upon a time I was falling in love, now I'm only falling apart. There's nothing I can do, a total eclipse of the heart. Once upon a time there was light in my life, now there's only love in the dark. There's nothing I can say, a total ecli-" The rest of Jasmine's words were cut off as the pillow I threw hi

"Kayla, how did you think you did on the test?" One of my classmates asks. It was half an hour after we did the test and myself and three of my classmates were currently sitting under a huge tree on board benches in front of the campus. The four of us were study buddies and would study for every test together. Aside from studying together, we don't hang out as much though. I turn to Sean, the one who had asked me the question. He was the only guy in the group. "It was okay. I was freaking out for nothing." I admitted."Me too." Replied Monica. "It was actually easy.""Can we not talk about this?" Lilly put in. "I don't think I did so well."I turn my attention to Lilly. "Why would you say that?"Lilly sigh. "I don't know. It was just difficult." She groans loudly. "That test was giving me a major headache."I laugh at her reaction. Lilly is a smart girl and she took interest in her studies. I can't really imagine her failing a test. As always she freaks out after a test and does wel

Chapter 47
When Carson and I had started college a year and a few months back, Carson had rented an apartment near his college. He had said that he rather have an apartment than stay in the dorms, which I totally understood. It's better when you have your own space and privacy than to be sharing a room. Of course, renting an apartment was no big deal. His father paid for the rent and he has been living there since he started school. His apartment wasn't far from my college either, so it only took half an hour to get there by cab. I have been here so many times that I've gotten used to the neighbourhood. Carson lived in a quiet neighbourhood; he loves it here and so do I. I got out of the car and walked into the building. I walked down the corridors and stop at his room door. I lightly rap my knuckles on the door continuously. After the second set of knocking, the door swung open and before I could get a word out or think, Carson pulled me inside and brought me close to him. A surprised breath l

At the end of my last class of the day, I went to sit on one of the benches under the big tree with a book in my hand. This book was one of my favourites. I had read it already and was now rereading it. I was occupying my time until Jasmine's final class finishes, which was in fifteen minutes. We were going to grab something to eat at the Deli down the street. Kevin and Lucas were going to meet us there. This was something we did every Friday after classes."Harry Potter huh?"I turn around from my book to the sound of the voice and saw that it was Travis. I was so caught up in the book that I didn't notice him walking up behind me."Hey, Travis." I greeted. "What's up?""Well, I saw you over here sitting and since I don't know anyone else yet, I decided to come over." He replied. "Mind if I sit down?""No, not at all." Travis walked around and sit on the bench opposite me. He took up the book that I rested on the table earlier and read the title out loud. "'Harry Potter and the Death

Carson's POV"What are you doing?" I ask Jayden, who was staring in front of him and smiling creepily for the past two minutes. My friends and I were in a bar that we regularly go to. We've been here since 5 o'clock playing pool, having drinks and simply just hanging out. I don't drink as much as I used to anymore though. I will only have one drink or sometimes two.Larry, the bartender and owner of the bar was in his forties, but he was really cool. He didn't mind selling us drinks even though we were only twenty years old. He always says that we seem like good youths, who wouldn't cause trouble. So we've been coming here ever since we came to New York."I'm trying to seduce that girl over there," Jayden replied to my earlier question, not taking his eyes from in front of him.I turn around to look at who he was referring to. We were sitting at the counter of the bar, having a beer and the girl was in the corner of the bar, sitting beside the pool table. I lifted my eyebrows in quest

I woke Saturday morning to the sound of Carson's house phone ringing. I sat up in the bed and that was when I heard the shower running.Stretching for the phone that was on the nightstand, I picked it up and put it to my ear. "Hello.""Hi, Darling! How are you doing?" I heard Marilyn's familiar voice on the other end.Instantly, a genuine smile came over my face. "Hi, Marilyn. I'm doing great. How are you?""I'm great as well. It's good to hear your voice." She said."It's always good to hear from you too," I said sincerely. After a while we started to catch up, talking about any and everything.Marilyn had become like a mother to me and I missed her so much. She would always check up on me and have that motherly love and care as if I was her daughter. I'm really grateful to her and I'm glad for the bond that we have."Where's Carson?" She asked after a while."He's in the shower," I informed her."Okay, I'll call him later." She said, then added. "Talk to you a next time. I've got to
