Chapter 3

Hazel POV

I cleaned my eyes and went back to the pan I had left on the stove. Injured or not, I was going to make this meal extra special just for Alpha Draco. I turned the cooker back on and resumed cooking as if nothing had happened. Every now and then, the pain shot through my body and I cringed and groaned in pain but I kept on cooking. After about an hour or so, I was done with the cooking; the aroma filled the air and I was filled with pride. I had done it and I was determined to do everything to keep Alpha Draco happy despite his horrid son and sadly, my mate. He had been really kind to me and was like a father to me. This was the least that I could do.

I served the food and carried it out to the dining table and covered it all up. I headed to Alpha Draco's room and knocked gently on the door.

I heard a gentle 'come in' and I went inside. Alpha Draco was hard at work on his laptop and he raised his head and smiled when he saw me.

"Ahhh, Hazel dear. How are you?"

"I'm very well Sir. I just wanted to tell you that lunch is ready."

I hid my hands behind my back so that he wouldn't see the burn. He smiled and nodded politely.

"I'll be down in a minute dear. I always relish your cooking. I wouldn't miss it for the world."

I turned to leave but I stopped and turned to him again.

"Alpha Draco?"

"Yes?"

"Thank you for your kind words at school today. They really made me feel better."

"You are very welcome," he said with a beaming smile.

I left his room with a big smile on my face and headed downstairs. I waited in the kitchen for Alpha Draco to come downstairs. I always liked to stand beside him while he ate and get his comments on my meals.

Suddenly I remembered that I had to tell Logan that lunch was ready. I hated that he looked down on me like I was nothing. I would have sold my arm just to avoid calling him down for lunch

I headed to his room and knocked and his voice came with a yell.

"I'll be down soon!"

I was so glad that he hadn't ask me to come in.

I went back downstairs and found Alpha Draco already sitting at the table. He opened the dish and sighed pleasantly.

"I can't wait to taste the magic you pulled on this."

Logan came downstairs and threw me an icy stare and sat down on his seat at his table.

"Good afternoon father."

"How are you Logan?"

Logan nodded politely and took his fork and began to eat.

"Hazel, this is wonderful. I don't know which of your dishes is my favorite now."

Alpha Draco ate my meal with such relish and gosh I blushed with pride.

I smiled and turned to walk away to hide my blush but Alpha Draco called me back.

"Where are you going dear? Please, sit and have lunch with us."

I could see Logan was about to object but he held his tongue. Saying no would be highly suspicious and would attract his father's attention.

"Thank you Sir."

I sat down at the opposite side of the table facing Logan. I tried to avoid eye contact with him as I served myself.

As I ate, Alpha Draco noticed the burn mark on my hand; I had forgotten to hide it.

"What happened to your hand?"

"Oh, this? I just got burnt by some hot oil. Its nothing really serious."

I could tell that Alpha Draco wasn't happy or convinced.

"Well it looks serious to me. How about you take the rest of the day off. I owe you many thanks for still being able to prepare a meal this sumptuous with your injury."

"Thank you Alpha Draco but I'm..."

"No, dear. I insist. Go home and rest. you have earned it."

I smiled and continued to eat, ignoring the death stare that Logan was giving me.

Alpha Draco loved my cooking so much that he asked for three more servings.. He asked me not to do the dishes either and he assigned another maid to do them and I went home. I was happy that the day was actually ending on a good note despite all the bad things that had happened to me that day.

I got to my house and relaxed on my sofa. I had a big lunch and I wasn't hungry for dinner. I treated my burn with some ointment and sat down to watch some TV. It was getting late and I had no idea when it dozed off on the couch.

School the next day was pretty normal and like always, I fell victim to Cassie, Logan's girlfriend. She was just as horrible as Logan. No wonder he liked her so much. Only birds of the same feather flock together.

"Hello weakling, I've been seeing you around Logan lately."

"I have no business with your boyfriend."

I wanted to avoid trouble but my statement only made thing worse for me

She grabbed a chunk of my hair and began to pull me around. I felt like my scalp was about to bleed.

When she had finished taunting me, she pulled me up and spoke to my face; I could smell what she had for breakfast.

"Better stay away from him or you're going to get it."

She pushed me roughly to the ground and left.

"Are you okay Hazel?"

I looked up and saw Bruce. He stretched out his hand and helped me up.

"Thanks."

"It's nothing. Hey, don't let her bother you. Her ego is so shallow. I heard that she made a fart so loud and stinky that it was caught on camera. I'm actually trying to get the video."

I chuckled. He was my friend and he was just as nerdy as me. We were actually academic rivals till we were split and sent to different classrooms.

"I'll see you in the cafeteria. Just be cool okay?"

He walked away and I headed to my history class. School was now in session and I was going to give it all my very best, Cassie or not.

The rest of the day was pretty uneventful. I met Bruce in the cafeteria and we shared some jokes and had a really good laugh. He said that he was unable to get Cassies' fart video but if it did exist, he would watch it with me first. I missed Jasper, if he was here things would have been beautiful.

Finally it was time to go home. I took the route that winded into the forest. I wanted to avoid Cassie and Logan by all costs in case they both decided to walk home together; he brought her around sometimes.

As I walked, I slowed down to listen to the sound of the birds chirping. The forest was so peaceful. I breathed in the clean forest air and soon I heard a light airy voice.

"Hazel."

I turned around in fear.

"Who is that?"

The voice came again.

"Hazel."

I felt as if my body was being controlled. My mind immediately went blank and I began to walk towards the strange airy voice. It became louder and louder but at the same time, still far away. I was completely mystified at the voice and I could see a pale figure in the distance. It looked like a girl and she was darting through the trees.

I walked more and soon I felt my feet get slightly wet and before I could take another step, I felt a strong tug from behind. Immediately, I snapped out of my trance and fainted. I had only seen a blurry glimpse of my rescuer's face before my eyes shut completely and I heard no more.
