Chapter 4

Soon,Adam dropped at home and was about to enter when he heard samantha, Evelyn mother talking ill of him to her husband John and Evelyn even though Evelyn tried to make her shut up.He thought of sneaking in and escaping Samantha but on opening the door he came face-to-face with her.

Samantha started insulting him directly,"You useless bastard,you had the guts to come back to this house after humiliating us today.You think you are now the man of the house to come back whenever you feel like" 

"After embarrassing us in Lord Williams house,you stupid thing could not even beg and you made us a laughing stock in the presence of everyone"

"Mum,stop that",chided Evelyn."He is not useless and definitely not a bastard.And concerning the laughingstock you brought that on yourself when you tried to eat what wasn't placed in front of you".

"You are still defending him.By tomorrow I'll make sure the divorce papers are ready and then you will divorce her", said Samantha facing Adam.

"I will only divorce her if she wants the divorce",he replied.

"She will divorce you tomorrow"Samantha told Adam scornfully while heading to her room.

Adam did not reply her and when to the bedroom he and Evelyn share.He went to the bathroom to freshen up and was about to sleep on the ground across the bed when Evelyn came in carrying a bowl of hot noodles and stretched it to Adam.

"I know you must be starving since you didn't eat before leaving for the hospital.

"Thank you",he said and collected it from her and started devouring it.

Adam could feel Evelyn's eyes boring into his head while he was eating but acted as though he wasn't aware until he was done eating.

"You want to say something",he asked Evelyn.

Evelyn's face turned red when Adam caught her staring at him.

"Am sorry about how everyone treated you tonight.How's Amanda faring?".

"It wasn't your fault.She is doing fine"said Adam.

"I have five hundred thousand dollars in my account,I will transfer it to you and try to borrow money from other people tomorrow to make it up to the hospital bills",said Evelyn.

"Thanks for the offer,I really appreciate it but the bills have been paid today already",he replied.

"How were you able to pay, hope you didn't borrow from loan sharks.Still you still need the money to pay those that borrowed you money",Evelyn spoke.

"Don't stress yourself,an anonymous person already paid the bills"'he stated the half truth not ready to reveal his identity to her.

"Good night",she spoke.

"Night", replied Adam.

Adam laid down and could not sleep for quite sometime as he was still trying to comprehend what he heard today,if truly he is the richest man in town.

"Maybe I am dreaming.When I wake up tomorrow,I will know for sure",was his last thought before he fell asleep

Evelyn woke up earlier than usual today and saw Adam sleeping.She decided to let him be as he was always the first person to wake up,most time he was like her alarm clock.

"He must be so tired from yesterday's activities",she thought."Why don't I just leave him a message".

She brought out a pen an decided against that.She decided to send in a text message.She scrolled for his number which she saved as Adam, typed the message and was about to send it when she had a second thought and save it as draft.

"I will send this message to him in some hours time,if not once he hears the beep of his phone he will be up".

She decided to help him reduce his house chores by helping him out and afterward left for work.

Adam woke up startled when he heard two beeps from his phone,he checked the bed to see if Evelyn was still sleeping but the bed was empty.

He decided to check the messages that entered his phone,one was from Evelyn and the other one from an unknown number.He checked Evelyn's own,it read thus.

"Good morning,I hope you slept well.I left you to sleep in since it seems you are too tired from yesterday's activities.Have a nice day".

He couldn't help but smile when he was done reading the message.He opened the second one which he assumed was from Jacob Smith on seeing the content of the message 

 

"Good morning sir,I just thought to inform you that we will be announcing your takeover in the company's press conference today without revealing your identity yet.You can come by to the company anytime you like.#Jacob#

"So it's true that am the king's heir",he thought.

He was confused by Jacob's message,why announcing takeover on a weekend.He stood up to check the time and then he remembered today is Monday.He probably miscalculated because of Lord Williams birthday party which was supposed to take place on Saturday was shifted to Sunday.

He freshes up and went to the living room where he saw Samantha practicing yoga.

"Good morning",he greeted her.

"Is this the time for you to wake up"said Samantha not bothering to respond to his greetings.

"Instead of doing house chores you are busy sleeping.It is not your fault, it's Evelyn's fault for indulging you by helping you with the house chores.What exactly is your usefulness in this house,you don't bring in money and yet you are too lazy for housework",she finished.

"You should at least find something to do instead of whiling away time.What are you still waiting for",She asked.

Adam entered the kitchen and found everything in order.Even the meal for breakfast had been prepared.He tried checking if there was any other housework he needed to do to while away time but found none.He was about to go back to his room when he decided to check the groceries cabinet and found little to no groceries.

He came out from the kitchen and was about to enter the bedroom when Samantha's voice stopped him.

"Useless boy,so you want to go back to sleep again".

"No,we are short of groceries",he replied."I need to go get some".

"You knew there was nothing in this house and you couldn't say anything since yesterday, the only thing you are supposed to do you can't even do it effectively",she responded."I won't give you any money for the groceries and you better find some money to but those groceries or else.

Adam did not reply her and left the house.
