Chapter 6

KLAY ROSE

"You are my mate."

Rozen looked at me, waiting for me to say something. Perhaps, he is expecting that I would rejoice by the fact that I am sent by the moon goddess to be the only woman he would love for the rest of his life.

"Wow." I blinked. "If this is another situation, I would probably be the luckiest woman on earth, but Rozen, you are terrifying me!" I felt goosebumps all over my body.

Yes, I like him. But, I like the human Rozen. How am I supposed to deal with a lycan Rozen? I didn't even know werewolves were real. They were supposed to be legends.

"Are you telling me that I am your mate? How am I supposed to believe that when I am a human being. The last time I checked, I don't change into a wolf form during the full moon and don't have heightened senses like yours." I sighed, looking frustrated. "Can you just tell the moon goddess to cut our ties or perhaps you should reject me so we never have to be mates."

"It seems like you know a lot of things about werewolves." He curiously looked at me. "How did you know those things?"

"Of course, we have these things called movies and books." I lied. I really don't know why I said those things like I have known them since. Perhaps, it was my mother who told me those but I was too young when I met her.

"I am afraid you're mistaken, Klay. It would indeed apply to a werewolf, but I am a lycan." He explained.

I raised my brow. "Does it make any difference?"

"A werewolf can get another mate if his mate died or if he's been rejected, but a lycan..." His eyes sparkled when he stared at me. Or was it my imagination?

I blinked, gasping my breath. My heart was racing and I felt this jittery feeling inside my stomach.

He smiled at me. "A lycan can only have one mate for the rest of his life."

"Oh..." I coughed. "That's sweet...and romantic." I turned the other way.

Ugh, Klay, focus, you need to focus.

I heard him laugh a little. What? Don't tell me lycans can hear thoughts?

"How did you know I am your mate? How would I know if you are telling me the truth?"

"Klay, it's hard to explain." He sighed. "It's about your smell, how you made me feel and it's complicated, but we know. Our body will automatically figured out that it was our other half given to us by the moon goddess." He explained.

I massaged the sides of my head. There's a lot of information I am getting now and my brain couldn't process it in an instant especially after seeing a human transform into a wolf or lycan as he says.

"Who is this illegitimate lycan king? If he is, would that make you legitimate?" I shook my head, confused. "And, why does he want me if I am your mate?"

"He is my half-brother. We share the same mother. He proclaimed himself as the king of the lycans waging war against us and killing everyone who will go his way." He deeply sighed, and it looks like he's a bit tired from all of it.

"Even I?" I blinked. "I don't even know who he is." I didn't even know that he has an older brother.

"It's to get revenge on me for killing his mate." He simply said.

"What? You killed his mate?" I gasped. "Why the hell did you do that?"

"I am sorry. It's my fault. Ever since I know that you are my mate, I tried to redirect the lycan from finding you. I avoided you and didn't talk to you even though I wanted to be with you." He shook his head. "Please, listen to me, Klay. You are safe with us."

"Should I be thankful, then? It's too late now." I started walking to the door.

I don't know what to feel anymore. I am terrified of everything, not only for me but for the kids. I know that if I stay here longer, we will be in danger.

"I don't want to be caught in the middle of war between you and that lycan king so I demand that you let us go." I said seriously.

"I am sorry, I cannot do that. I am here to protect you, Klay." He tried to stop me.

"You failed, though. Our covenant was burned into ashes and George is still missing. How is that protecting?" I raised my brow. "We are leaving this place in an instant!"

Halfway to the door, he called me again. "Klay, if you leave this place...you are all going to die."

"Are you threatening me?"

"I am not. I am just stating a fact. He's after you and he will not stop until he gets you." He seriously looked at me.

"And, he will not get me if I am beside you?" I clarified. "Will that put me in danger more?"

"Klay, at least you have someone to fight for you."

"Is George with him?" I asked.

He nodded. "We believe so."

"Then, can you bring me to him?"

"What? No!" He protested. "I will not do that, Klay. It's too dangerous and it's like walking on trap."

"He wants me, right? That's the only thing that will assure George's safety, so unless you want to help me, we are moving out!"

"Where would you go, then?" He creased his brow. "Where do you think is the safest place now?"

"I don't know. Anywhere but not here."

I am not sure why I am letting my pride get into me when this is a safe place for the kids, yet my instinct told me that they'll be more caught up. So, I must find a place for them before I face this problem.

"Klay!" Rozen called me, but I already ran.

The mansion was so huge that I almost lost my way to the main hall. I saw the kids playing with the sisters, it seemed like they hadn't remembered the things that happened last night except for the older ones who already understood what happened. I held both sisters on the other side so kids will not hear what we are going to talk about.

"Sister, I think we should find a place now." I suggested. "It will be better if the kids will stay in the convent in another city."

"Klay..." Sister Mary held my hand as she shook her head. "Let's just stay here."

"Sister, believe me. You don't want to stay here. We cannot just trust them that easily and wait---" I paused, looking at both of them.

"You knew?" I scoffed. "All along you knew about them...their existence?"

"I'm sorry, Klay. If we have lied to you, but we are just protecting you and the kids. Trust us. They saved us."

"Trust you?" I covered my mouth in shock. "How could I trust you? You lied to me and..." I looked at her and Sister Rizza. "Did you also lie about my parents?"

I had to clarify as I had always been bothered by images that don't seem to fit right in the story they told me.

"Do you really not know who my parents are?" I asked again.

"They were killed by lycans." Sister Mary shook her head. "I'm sorry."

"Who...killed...them? Give me a specific name!" My heart was beating so fast as I yelled in frustration.

"The illegitimate lycan king."
