Chapter 3

After a long day of driving, making a pit stop in every state we finally arrive at the hotel we’re staying in for the night. We checked in to the Whitten Inn in Elk City, Oklahoma. Got our room key, climbed back into our cars to park closer to the room, and entered our accommodation for the night.

The hotel room was a standard two double bed, bathroom, basic tv, mini fridge and kettle with hot drink supplies. The bed felt comfortable, but I wouldn’t be testing that out until I’ve had a nice relaxing shower.

Once I got out of the shower Dad was already snoring so loud, I don’t have to leave the bathroom to know he’s already fast asleep. I walk back into the room once I was dried and dressed in a pink tank top and white shorts with pink hearts printed on them, I felt exhausted I climbed into the bed, and I melted into the sheets they felt like clouds against my skin.

Rolling onto my side I looked at the time on the digital clock on the bedside table seeing it said 02:35 my eyes felt heavy but before I fell asleep, I texted the girls saying I arrived safely at the hotel we’re staying at for the night.

After hitting SEND I locked my phone, put it back down, and I closed my eyes and drifted off into a peaceful sleep.

BEEP BEEP BEEP I wake up to to turn the alarm off. “Morning baby girl” Dad is already up and dressed, packing away his pajamas into his overnight bag. I sit up in my bed rubbing my eyes.

“Morning Dad” I then look at the clock to see the time and I groan in disbelief. “Dad why is the alarm set for six thirty?” I ask him still feeling a little groggy from the alarm waking me up.

“There’s an old saying ‘the early bird catches the worm’ We got to get back on the road if we’re aiming to be in Albuquerque, New Mexico by noon” dad says sitting at the foot of my bed, patting my leg he stands up and leaves the hotel room so I can get ready in peace.

I’m up and out of the door in no time, making sure we’ve not left anything behind us as we head towards the hotel lobby. “I have an idea I’ll go check out and you go and grab us a couple of coffees then we’ll hit the road” dad suggests.

“Sounds like a plan dad do you want your usual?” He nods “I’m on it” and we go our separate ways and arrange to meet back at the cars once we’re finished.

Waiting in line to collect our coffees and a couple of bagels from the Starbucks across the street from the hotel I decide to check my emails on my phone. Pulling my phone out of my back pocket and open the email app. A certain email catches my eye, I open it up and read the email.
