CHAPTER THREE

“Who are you?” I had asked him but before I knew what was happening, he came to me and placed something on my mouth, preventing my scream to reach anyone’s ear. I realized that it was a cloth he had placed on my mouth and there must be chloroform on it. I panicked as my mind went blank. I didn’t know what to do. I wiggled in his hold but he only grabbed me from behind and not later than a minute I was losing my consciousness. I fainted in his arm and fell into the darkness that surrounded me afterward.

My eyes fluttered open and a groan escaped my mouth when my head ached. With my eyebrows furrowed in confusion, I looked around me. I was in a very unfamiliar room and the walls and the ceiling was covered in white paint. It was empty besides a chair in the very corner of the room while I stood in the middle. I moved my hand and it took me by surprise when I realized that my hands were tied to the pole behind me. I nudged my hands as if I would be able to free myself but it was impossible. I squirmed in my place but it was useless.

“Hello…” my voice came out.

“Somebody there? Help me…” I shouted to the empty space. Suddenly I recalled what happened at the club. Those amber orbs flashed before my eyes again and the fear took inside me. I was aware that my captor was the same man from the club. But how do I get myself out of here? I thought. I was on the verge of crying.

“Let me out…” I again shouted, hoping someone would hear me. I slid down to the floor and rested there for a while. I was scared. He had kidnapped me and I didn’t know what I should do to escape from here. I heard footsteps approaching the room and my gaze went to the only door in the room. I noticed the shadow which lingered outside and stood up as that someone was opening the door to get inside.

The door opened and my breath hitched in my throat when he took a step inside the room. Suddenly the large empty room didn’t look big enough. It felt small in front of him. He was tall and lean but masculine. I didn’t notice how handsome he was before with his sharp jaw and arched eyebrows but his face held no emotion. It was void and hard as stone. I practically gulped when he closed the distance between us and stood tall in front of me. Anyone would’ve cowered in fear from him but what was I supposed to do? What did I do to offend him? Why did he kidnap me? He stared into my bright green eyes as if he could read what questions were running through my mind.

“Who are you?” I asked the same questioned from before. I had so many questions to ask him but he never opened his mouth. Suddenly he leaned towards my face until he was a mere inch away from my face and I stopped breathing and stared at him with my eyes wide. His breath prickled over my face but he only stared at me for a minute and searched my face. What he was searching for, I didn’t have any clue.

“Why am I here? Who are you?” I repeated. He was scaring me. There was something, his presence showed that how powerful he was which I didn’t notice before, maybe due to the alcohol. I waited for a minute for his reply and when he didn’t, I concluded he won’t answer me.

“What is your name?”

For a second, I didn’t believe that it was he who asked that. His voice was thick and raspy and I knew a part of me liked it but it was not the time for it. I wanted to slap myself even at the thought of liking him. I snapped my eyes back to his and frowned.

“You don’t know who I am?” I whispered.

“Then why did you kidnap me?” I quizzed. What the hell? If he didn’t know who I was then why was I here?

I stayed silent with all the unnecessary thoughts buzzing in my mind. He didn’t like to wait, I noted it when he almost shouted in my face making me jump.

“WHAT IS YOUR NAME?”

My heart picked up. He was scary when he shouted. With my lips trembling, I replied, “Rose.”

“Whom are you working for?” he questioned again. I knew he could hear my pounding heart as it was beating loudly inside my chest. I wanted to know why he was asking this but I didn’t.

“I… I’m a branch manager of my company,” I nervously replied. In a second his hands grabbed me by my throat and he squeezed it. I was taken aback. My air supply halted.

“I asked whom are you working for,” he shouted in my face, still clutching my throat. I coughed and it was hard for me to breathe.

“I… I just told you,” I spoke even though my voice didn’t leave my throat. Heat radiated from him, telling me that he was angry but why? My eyes stung with tears and it blurred my vision but I noticed his eyes changing colors. For a second, I thought I was seeing things. I didn’t believe what I saw. How can they change colors? It was amber before, the most beautiful eyes I had ever seen but now it was a dangerous black. I wiggled in his hold but he didn’t loosen his grip. My lungs burned for air and I knew I was going to faint. My eyes started to roll back and he must have noticed it when he released me and took a step back from me. I gulped a deep breath of air and coughed. I thought that he would leave but he didn’t as he grabbed a fist of my hair and made me look into his eyes. My scalp pained but I preferred him grabbing my hair instead of my throat.

“I will ask this once,” his voice was low but intimidating at the same time.

“Whom are you working for?” he repeated. I didn’t know why he was asking me that. I told him the truth but he was not believing me.

“I’m telling you the truth; I’m not working for anyone. I’m just a manager in my company,” I spoke. Almost whined. A tear slipped my eyes and slid down to my cheeks and his eyes followed it. He leaned again; I took a sharp breath.

“Then how is it that you’re my mate?” he said, making me all the more confused.
