I stepped into class the next day and made a beeline to my preferred seat. I considered plugging in my earbuds and listening to a few Halsey songs to keep my Zing on as students were moving around, chatting and catching up, discussing previous lessons, and talking loudly while we waited for class to start. I bring out my books and arrange my pen and pencils, I make quick work of sharpening the worn ones. I had a test later today which I spent the last two nights preparing for, I was feeling confident last night but I couldn’t help the nerves this morning.

“You’ll be fine Kates” I mumbled to myself with a nod. Then brought out my phone next.

“Hey Katy” a voice called breaking my concentration, I looked up in time to see a girl wave at me as she passed to seats behind.

I’m already waving back before I realize my hand is up, involuntarily action really, to just wave back when some waves at you.

We’ve shared this class all semester and another in our sophomore year and haven’t exch
