Dani POV

“I’m doing this as a friend.”

It was impossible for my eyes to not widen at his words, he was plainly declaring that all he was doing was because he saw me as a friend and nothing more. I sucked on my bottom lips and waited for reality to dawn on me, for him to say that he didn't mean that but it never came.

“You’re an asset Dani, it would be foolish to not take anything you say seriously and most especially protect you. Its easier to not have a distracted woman working on a minimum.” he said and my heart plummeted a million miles down. Right, he was protecting me because I was his staff and i was useful to his company.

“Right.” I muttered and nodded my head slowly, there was no need to make this much of a big deal. “Well thank you for thinking about me and my family but i can fend for all of us, like i have and will.” I objected calmly and his eyes softened at my words.

“Dani-” i raised my hands to stop him from speaking, I gave him a small smile before i retired back to the
