Chapter Forty Seven

Melina PoV

Ramona didn’t have to tell me to keep running the moment I exited the gate. Who knew what tricks the Elders had under their sleeve?

I wouldn’t be surprised if they had some sort of system in place that in situations like this when the defenses of the academy were breached. And I definitely do not want to wait to find out what those contingences are. The moment I stepped through the gate, I ran as fast as my legs could carry me.

The academy was located at the top of a steep hill which I meant I had to run downhill with a considerable heavy backpack on my bag. And that was definitely not an easy thing to do.

By the time I reached the base of the hill, I was breathing faster than a goat who’d just escaped the grasp of a mountain lion. My heart pounded so loud and fast it felt like I was going to explode and splatter my brain all over the grass.

“Gosh!” I wheezed as I slowed my steps down to a walk, “I really need to exercise.”
