Chapter Fifty Four

Axel PoV

“I didn’t think you would come,” I said gently as Klaus entered through the front door.

Before Klaus came, I’d freshened up. A hot bath had a way of making me seem friendly, and for my plan to work, Klaus needed to see me as his friend. What’s betrayal without gaining the trust of your mark?

To add to my layer of betrayal, I’d changed into a clean, celebratory suit to make it seem like I’m in a mood to celebrate. I’d matched the suit with an equally expensive pair of black, suede shoe.

The last touch I added to my illusion of friendship was to dim the lights in the living room. Werewolf had acute senses, but it would be difficult to see the fine specks of dust scattered around the left glass cup in such low lights.

I’d carefully prepared my plans. It was a last-ditch effort and I desperately needed it to work. If it didn’t, everything would collapse, and things would get super ugly.
