Chapter Forty-Nine

One moment he was kissing me like his life depended on it. The next moment he was looking at me with an indecipherable gaze.

The change was so abrupt that my brain struggled to catch up. Heat pooled between my legs, and I couldn't help but shudder at his intense gaze at me.

I hugged myself, and made to get out of the tub. Coming here was a mistake.

Or was it?

“I'll be in my room.” I managed to whisper, despite my messy mind.

I barely made it out, before his gruff voice stopped me. “Did I say you could leave?” His voice was husky, but betraying no emotions.

My heart raced furiously, and I slowly turned to face him. His eyes were so dark and piercing that my legs almost gave way.

I struggled to find the perfect response. We'd been kissing, and he pushed me away. Did he expect me to stay?

The thought had barely formed, when a bittersweet taste filled my mouth. I'd kissed my abductor. My enemy. And I let him-

“I thought you wanted me to,” I
