Brain Fog

So far today, all I've managed to do is stare at my computer screen with all our inventory. I've even read the note about a thousand times trying to reveal the sender. Why am I so frustrated? I can't concentrate on anything to do with work. It's a good job I have my assistant Maisie here to serve the customers and keep things ticking over. Surely the mystery sender should know what sending this would do to me? Why send it to me and not Charlotte's parents or even the Police?

"Genie, are you ok?". Maise looks at me concerned with her big brown eyes. She's as blonde as I am dark. People would describe us as polar opposites but we work well together and have even formed a friendship outside of work.

"I'm ok Maisie. Sorry, I'm preoccupied today. I received some unusual news this morning and I'm trying to decide what to do about it".

"Anything I can help with? A problem shared is a problem halved? Or so the saying goes?". She really is a sweetheart. But I can't tell her about the note without potentially alerting her to the fact I'm a witch and so was Charlotte. I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place!

"What would I do without you?" I smile back at her "Unfortunately this is something I'm going to have to figure out on my own". But as soon as I say it, the realization hits me that I have no clue where to start. My only option now is to speak to my Mom and see what she thinks and if it's a hoax. Maybe she could even speak to her coven and get them to do a little nosing around.

It's decided, I'll swing by Mom and dads after work and see what she has to say. She's always excited when I visit - more so because she generally ropes me into helping out in the kennels. But there is a plus side to that, she always asks me to stay for dinner which means no cooking for me! And my mom is an amazing cook - there isn't anything she can't do. It helps that before she decided to open up a kennel with my dad she was a trained Chef. Go, mama! I would love to say that I developed her cooking skills but I'm terrible. She tried to teach me while growing up but I just had no interest. My eyes were always attached to some book or other and I was a nerd in high school which didn't help. The boys never asked me out, and I even went to my senior prom with Charlotte. We looked like a right pair of losers!

But we were the best of losers, and the best of friends - god I miss her!
