Test Of Strength

I slowly walk home thinking about Charlotte and the things my mum had told me. It was hard to focus in the bar with the anonymous Micah commanding my attention - completely my fault by the way. Anyone would think I was a love-sick teenager and not a grown woman. If Charlotte were here she would have teased me relentlessly. As I walk, I suddenly hear brakes screeching and then a loud scream. Looking up I can see a dark blue Chevrolet has failed to stop and has hit what looks like a teenage boy. I immediately call 911 before running over to assess the damage. The car has mounted the curb and has pinned this poor boy by his leg underneath it. His screams are ferocious and I panic not knowing what to do.

"It's ok - I've called an ambulance and they're on their way. What's your name?". I ask as calmly as I can.

"Tommy". The boy replies crying "Please help me, I'm stuck".  Looking at him he can't be more than 16. I look into the driver's side to find the driver is an older gentleman unconscious. As I lean in to check for a pulse I can smell stale liquor on his breath. He's still breathing luckily.

"Ok Tommy, I need you to do me a favor - can you close your eyes for me?". Tommy nods and slowly closes his eyes. I need him to close them because what I'm about to do is against all the rules of our race of Witchcraft. I'm going to have to use my power of enhanced strength to gently lift the car off of his leg. With complete ease, I lift the car, and Tommy's leg is free, as I gently place the car back down.

"Ok Tommy, you can open your eyes now. But, I need you to stay completely still until the ambulance arrives because I don't know what damage the car has done to your leg ok?".

Tommy nods "Thank you". At that point, the ambulance crew arrive and immediately take over the scene. With no one paying attention to me, I slowly fade into the background and run the rest of the way home. I can only hope that no one witnessed me lifting the car or I would be in deep shit, especially if my mum finds out. As the head of the coven, it's her responsibility to report any Witches or Warlocks to the council who use their powers around non- witch folk. But, I couldn't have left the poor kid like that. I believe our powers are given to us for a reason and that is a prime example of why. I enter my house and lock the door behind me. Hopefully, Tommy was too disorientated to understand what had happened and by asking him to close his eyes I hope he couldn't see me lifting the car. Oh god, please let that be the case.

It was dark too, so I had that going for me. Plus when I scanned the area I couldn't see anyone in the area or lurking. No, I'm absolutely positive it was just me, Tommy, and the unconscious driver, so I was home free.

I head upstairs and have the longest shower of my life, before getting into bed. Before long, my eyelids are heavy and I drift off to sleep. Hopefully, tomorrow would be a better day.
