Leila’s number was unavailable. Kelvin tried again but he got the same response. She was not at the hospital. She was not at home. His mother-in-law was asleep when he arrived or he would have questioned her.

He gave her best friend a call almost immediately. The two of them must have gone home together and Leila was spending the night at her friend’s place.
