Chapter 6

POV Griffin

"We better get to class" Jasmine said behind Lilly, breaking us out of our stupor.

Lilly pulled her hand away and stepped back from me quickly. I didn't like that one bit and I growled lowly.

"Jasmine's right. We've got to go. See you later!" she called as she turned and refused to look at me.

I reached out to grab her arm but she rushed away with Jasmine behind her. I was enraged and started to chase after her. How dare she walk away from me! Nik held me back, though.

"Calm down. We know where they're going." she reminded me and I took a deep breath of her lingering scent to calm myself.

Theo exchanged a look with Lance and Lance nodded back at him.

"I'll see you at lunch" Lance said and gave Theo a kiss and walked off.

"Is she really your mate?" Theo whispered after he left and I nodded slowly.

"What are you going to do?" Dolph pressed.

I had always said that I would reject my mate if she ever came around. I had seen what the mate bond had done to my father and my friends and I didn't want any part in it. Watching my father mourn his missing mate for most of my life just made me feel bitter about mates in general. I didn't want to ever be that vulnerable. I didn't want to settle down with one girl. I didn't want to lose all my self respect because of the mate bond. I didn't want to be weak.

But all that changed when I met her just a few minutes ago. Now I didn't know. Something about her made me feel stronger than before. More focused.  I sighed.

"I'm going to make her regret walking away from me" I snarled at Dolph. Theo chuckled while Nik looked alarmed.

"We need to update your father." Nik reminded me and I nodded.  I linked Dad with the others as the bell rang and the hall cleared.

{We are all set in the girls classes but there has been a new... development} Nik began.

{What does that mean?} Dad demanded.

{Well...} Theo trailed off.

{She's my mate. Lilly is my mate} I blurted out.

There was a few moments of silence.

{Are you sure?} Dad asked.

{Yeah. I even touched her to be sure. Sparks. It's her} I replied.

Dad chuckled through the link.

{So my mate had a child with another man and that child is my child's mate?} he clarified.

{You had me with someone else too} I snapped, defensive of my mate's family.

{True} he snarled.

{What do you want to do, son?} he asked and I stopped and thought.

I thought about rejecting her but then pictured her doing the same thing that her mother had done to my father. My whole body clenched at the thought of her with another person. I couldn't even imagine her having a kid with someone else.

{She's mine.} I growled.

{Good.} Dad replied and we made a plan.

Dad wasn't the only one that was going to take his mate. They weren't going to leave us, ever. We would make sure of it

POV Lilly

I took a deep breath when we made it to class. Jasmine pointed out some empty seats in the back. Luckily, all the seats around them were empty as well.

"What the hell was all that?" Jasmine demanded after we sat down.

I looked around. I noticed that most of the class was glancing at us and nodded my chin to them.

I'm no idiot. I had a fairly good idea as to what was happening at this school and town. I also had an idea as to what the Savages really were. The growling and Theo's possessiveness was a dead giveaway. I mean, that coupled with the howling last night, the sniffing at the mall and the wolfsbane my mom was planting. I just couldn't figure out why Mom and Aunt Iris hadn't told us. Why keep this a secret?

If they were what I thought they were then what had just happened with Griffin and I was bad. Really, really bad. Like end of the world bad.  At this point all I could do is hope that I was wrong about at least one thing or another. I took another deep breath, trying not to panic and focused.

What I didn't know was what the other group was. The one that Jasmine said was run by Ember and Cedric. If they were sharing the town with the Savages, I knew for sure that they weren't human.  I did know that we would be overheard no matter how quietly we spoke so I took out my phone and showed Jasmine. She did the same. Luckily our teacher hadn't shown up yet.

Lilly: Does the other group in the school have a name?

Jasmine: Yeah. They call themselves the Red Spiders. Why?

Lilly: I know what the Savages are and they aren't human. I'm trying to figure out the other group to see how much shit we're in.

Jasmine: What are they?

Lilly: Werewolves. They are a pack.

"Fuck! Are you serious?" Jasmine exclaimed and the rest of the class looked over. I nodded and she sighed.

Just then, our teacher walked in front of a boy and girl. They both had an aura of power. The girl had long red hair and pale skin.  The boy was just as pale but his hair was more dirty blond. He towered over the rest of us just as tall as Griffin. They both had hazel eyes. Jasmine quickly sent me another text at the sight of them.

Jasmine: That's them. Ember and Cedric.

I watched as a dark haired boy followed them in with a brunette boy behind him. They all seemed to take a deep breath and look at us. The girl shrugged and went to sit in the back while the three boys smiled in a predatory way and headed over to us.

As the teacher got his things together and set up the boys walked over and stood in front of us. Jasmine looked up and sighed.

"Hello, Jasmine. How was your summer?" Cedric asked.

"Good Cedric, you?" Jasmine replied, again playing the bored card.

"It was nice but I was sorry that I didn't see you." he replied.

He then turned to his friends.

"This is Stone and Axel, guys you remember Jas, right?" he said.

"Nice to see you." The dark haired boy replied as Jasmine nodded.

"I don't remember your friend though." The dark haired one continued, turning to me.

"This is Lilly." Jasmine gritted out.

"Lilly, I'm Axel." the dark haired one said and I forced a smile.

"I'm Stone and that's Cedric." the brunette added nodding.

I glanced over at Cedric and saw that he was completely focused on my cousin.

"Are these seats taken?" Cedric asked.

Jasmine was about to protest but I cut her off.

"No. Please, go ahead." I gestured and the three smiled at me while Jasmine glared.

Cedric sat next to her and Axel sat next to me with Stone on the other side of him.

I quickly texted her again.

Lilly: We need to figure out what they are.

Jasmine read the text and nodded with a sigh.

The teacher began class then. A few moments later, the door opened and Griffin came in with Nik, Theo and Dolph following him.

Griffin stopped and stared at me for a moment as I glared back. His eyes slid to the seat next to me and he growled. Damn. That's not good. I shifted a bit away from Axel to attempt to keep the peace and Griffin smirked.

"Sorry we're late" Griffin said to the teacher who just shrugged.

"Baby!" Ember called out and Nik ran back to sit with her.

I looked over at Jasmine in confusion.

"They're dating. Have been since before I moved here." she replied and I frowned.

So much for the thought that the Red Spiders were another pack. If Nik was the Alpha's mate, she would have to change packs. Since she obviously didn't, they couldn't be werewolves. Crap.

Griffin, Theo and Dolph came over to us and sat in the desks behind us. Griffin sat behind me while Dolph sat behind Jasmine and Theo sat behind Axel.

The teacher began the class again but it was difficult to concentrate. I could feel Griffin's stare behind me and Axel just turned and stared at me, shamelessly. I glanced over at Jasmine and saw that she had the same situation with Dolph and Cedric.

I took a deep breath of Griffin's scent to calm down and heard him chuckle. Shit! He noticed.

The teacher finished his lecture early and passed around the sheets we had for homework. I turned to hand the stack to Griffin and he brushed my hand while taking them.

"Thanks, baby." he whispered and I almost melted into a puddle right then.

I was able to hold it together though and nodded. I turned back around and heard him growl lowly. I smirked.

"Hey, Lilly. What are you doing after school?" Axel asked.

I turned to face him and shrugged as a heard the growl from Griffin again.

"Jasmine and I have to get home. We've got stuff to do." I replied.

I could hear Cedric ask Jasmine the same thing and smirked as I heard her give him the same response.

I glanced over at her and she smiled at me.

"Lilly, can you help me with the homework?" Jasmine quickly asked before anyone else could say anything else.

"You know that I will." I smiled and we pulled our desks together and away from the surrounding boys.

Jasmine and I ignored all of them for the rest of the hour and got our homework done. When the bell finally rang, Jasmine and I gathered our things quickly and stood up together.

She linked her arm through mine. We always did that, ever since we were little. It was a way to make sure we weren't split up.

"Do you want to sit with me at lunch, Jasmine?" Cedric asked before we could leave.

"Sorry, Cedric. It's Lilly's first day. I need to stay with her." Jasmine replied quickly.

"She could join..." Cedric began but Griffin cut him off.

"You can both sit with us" Griffin blurted out.

Jasmine and I exchanged a look.

"Maybe. We'll see" I responded and hurried out the door with Jasmine.
