Xander’s POV

I looked down at my phone, expecting to see Sasha’s name flash on the screen. Instead, it was Mom calling. “Mom?” I answered, puzzled.

“Xander, where are you?” she said, her voice breathless. “Hurry home.”

“What’s wrong?” I asked, but she had already hung up. I stepped on the accelerator and sped back home, wondering what was wrong.

When I walked into the house, I saw my mom, Sasha, and Sasha’s parents all seated in the living room. I took a deep breath, more confused than ever.

“You’re back,” my mom said, coming towards me. She gave me a kiss on the cheek, looking very happy.

“Mom, what’s wrong? Is everything okay?” I asked, scanning their faces for any sign of trouble.

“You’ve done well,” she said, leading me inside, but it only made me more confused.

“Done well? What are you talking about?” I glanced at Sasha, who was smiling brightly.

“Sit down,” Mom said, guiding me to the couch. Whatever was happening, I didn’t understand, but my mom looked so happy.
