"What are you saying?" I asked at once.

Avery shrugged. "I’m just saying what has been on everyone’s lips. What wrong did I do, eh?"

I took a deep breath before siting down firmly on the chair. This was just too much. I could tolerate it when Meade made such comments because I didn’t expect anything from her, but when it came to Avery, it hurt more than I could even put into words.

I slowly looked up at Avery who was frowning as she looked at me. "It’s just that I can’t believe that you would also repeat that question and talk to me like that," I mumbled.

She sighed, and at the same moment the door opened. Lily came in with the tea. She smiled as she placed the tea on the shelf. I signalled for her to leave, and she did as I had told her.

With Lily gone, I pulled my hair to the side easily. "You don’t see what you did wrong, do you?"

Avery groaned. "What exactly have I done that you keep stressing on? I’m your friend, and it’s also my right to talk to you about these things. P
