RUBY'S POV

“So Clarissa told me you work as Dax's bodyguard. Is that true, Simon?” It was already an hour into dinner and an awkward silence had been looming over our heads as only the sound of our cutleries clanking against our plates was the only noise so I guessed Clarissa's father took it upon himself to start a conversation.

“Yes, I am. Mr. Tovaro” Simon replied after he swallowed and Clarissa's father nodded in response wordlessly before gesturing at Simon to continue eating.

I made eye contact with Clarissa who was opposite me on the other side of the table and she rolled her eyes tiredly which made me smile. I knew she was still worried about how they would interact with Simon but I trusted it would go well.

Her parents were very nice people even though they were filthy wealthy and influential in New York.
