Becca's POV

I told myself that with time, I would heal, but every day felt like I was sinking deeper with nowhere to go. I felt completely alone. I still saw him in my dreams. Every night, it was like he was asking me, "Why did you kill me?" If only I had never involved him in my drama, maybe he would still be alive.

I heard the door creak open. It was Bas. He sighed when he saw me still wrapped up in my blanket, the food he had dropped off earlier untouched. I felt a pang of guilt because I blamed him for everything, but a part of me knew it wasn't his fault. I just wanted the pain to be less.

"And what good is that? What good are you if you can't save the people I care about?"

His eyes widened with hurt, and I regretted the moment I said that. He took a step back, his face a mixture of pain and resignation, and slowly walked away.
