“Ryder

Good morning darling! You're awake. We didn't want to disturb you. How was your sleep?” Alexis sounded chirpy, the complete opposite of what I was feeling.

This wasn't going to be easy. Explaining to her that last night was a one-time thing.

“Good,” I muttered, thinking of how to start the conversation.

“Papa,” Alim shrieked, appearing from under the table and grabbing onto my legs.

“I'm glad I could be of help. I really enjoyed myself last night,” she said shyly, batting her lashes. “I haven't felt so good in a long time. I could get used to it.”

Ignoring her not-so-subtle attempt at revisiting what we did last night, I picked Alim up, hugging him to my chest. I've missed him.

“We were just about to have breakfast. Care to join?” Alexis asked.

My tummy rumbled as I spied the spread on the table.

I nodded and sat down, placing Alim in the empty seat beside me. “How have you been, buddy?”

“Good. Mama made me breakfast and promised to take me to the park today.”
