Thirty Eight

My sister ran her fingers through her hair, refusing to look me in the eye. I turned to look at Zeke and he sighed.

"Why are you silent?" I asked Ava who grimaced.

"I'm tired, right now. We can talk about this some other time," she said as she turned away from me, her shoulders slumped.

"Are you going to keep procrastinating until it ends up becoming a burden?" Zeke asked her and she stiffened. A moment of silence rested on us and she cleared her throat.

"Don't worry. Now, is just not the right time to bring that topic to the table. I will confront him when the time is right," she said and walked away.

I stared at her, trying to figure out what was going on. Ava had sounded off. There was something about the way she'd spoken that made me understand that she was restricting her emotions.

"What were you two talking about?" I asked Zeke who stared at me, an unreadable look in his eyes.

"You're not going to tell me, either? Is this some top secret I shouldn't know about?"
