Chapter 37

Amelia's POV

I slowly opened my eyes, I felt something familiar lying on my chest. It was my favorite bead necklace, but it wasn't as soft as I remembered. I sighed, the weight of it feeling strangely heavy against my skin.

The smell of the room was different too, no longer familiar but antiseptic, like a hospital. I blinked, trying to adjust to the dim lighting, and could hear the silent beep of a machine nearby. It felt surreal, like I had been transported to another world.

Suddenly, the lights came on, and I winced, covering my eyes with my hand. "Fuck!" I exclaimed, the brightness almost blinding me.

A figure approached me, and as my eyes adjusted, I realized it was a doctor. He wasn't smiling as he walked towards me, and I knew instantly that something was wrong.

"Good morning, Miss Amelia," he said softly, his voice calculated and clinical. "How are you feeling?"
