Chapter Twelve

Using my magic to find missing objects was one of the first things I’d been taught, but it never occurred to me to use it to find a missing person.

“That’s an excellent idea, young Walters,” my grandfather said with enthusiasm.  “Missy, why don’t you go out and ask the trees who took her?  Surely, if they don’t know, they can find out.”

I couldn’t help having a flash back in my mind of my life in the suburbs of Chicago and imagining how my friends would react had they been in the room to witness such a suggestion being made by my grandfather.  Then, they would probably still be picking themselves off the floor and wondering what I’d spiked their  drinks with after just seeing us materialize out of thin air.

“I can give it a try,” I said as I stepped toward the front door.
