Chapter One
Chapter One"Go to your room," my mother yells at me. She keeps treating me as a child, hiding things from me. "I'm not going anywhere until you give me some answers," I retort. She looks at me furiously. I'm used to that look. I've gotten to see it for the past seventeen years. I'm no longer scared of her. "Why do you keep me here like a prisoner? What's wrong with me?" She hisses and scoffs. "How dare you speak such words to me?" The wooden door creaks open as my father returns home from work. He works as a blacksmith in the forge. "What's happening?" he asks, placing his bag on the table. "Good, you're here. I know both of you are hiding something," I say, staring sternly at him. "Alice has gotten crazy," my mother retorts. My father looks at me confused. "The people in the village always look at me with disgust. I hear whispers of people calling me a witch." My father pinches his forehead, creating tiny wrinkles. His brown eyes are sad and full of worry. "Alice, can you go to your

Chapter Two
The ray of the sun shines through my window. I haven't slept since I changed to my human form. I just can't wrap my head around everything that happened. I breathe heavily lying on my bed. My life can never be the same after that. The whispers were true. I'm different. A monster. The door opens slightly after a light knock on it. "Can I come in?" my mother says even though I can already see her face pepping into my room. I stare at the ceiling feeling nothing. I don't know what to think about myself. It's a lot for me to process. My mother walks into my room without waiting for a response. She wasn't going to get one anyway."How are you feeling?" she asks, taking a seat on the edge of my bed. The wooden bed stand makes a harsh noise when her weight comes on it. "Why?" I ask firmly. Her presence brings a new surge of anger. It's all their fault for keeping this away from me. I had the right to know all along. Not to be kept as their prisoner without an explanation. She brushes my hair

Chapter Three
"Come with me," Gabriel says stepping out of his hut. Tad had left us when Gabriel dismissed him. Gabriel has this subtle look that makes him slightly mysterious and intriguing. I'd be lying if I said I am not attracted to that side of him. We walk out of the hut together. I see a better view of his face. His chiseled jawlines and perfectly curved lips stand out as the sun casts a glow on him. "I want you to meet everyone. We are a pretty small pack," he says walking to an open space in the center of the land they call home. His hair is dark and low. "Dear Shadow walkers," he says loudly. I stand frozen in the spot taking deep breaths as the place gets crowded with the dwellers coming of out their houses. My heartbeat has gotten faster as they stare at me. I look to the ground, trying to calm myself. "This is Alice," Gabriel announces, pointing at me. "Alice Lintle." A few persons gasp in shock while other whisper to one another. "Let's welcome her as one of hers," he adds staring at

Chapter Four
I wake up feeling a lot more drawn to the woods. It's a strange feeling wanting to see Gabriel again and feel among for once. I've always wanted to be not so different. I walk to the windows, drawing the curtains to let in the rays of the sun into my room. The birds are chirping and flying lowly as I stare out. Several passersby with baskets filled with green vegetables in their arms walk past our house. I walk out of my room to the sound of rustling of pots in the kitchen. My mother is standing by the cooker with a wooden spoon in her hand. She turns to me and smiles. "You woke up early," she says, bringing the spoon to her lips. She is dressed in a blue ruffled skirt with a black blouse. I smell the sweet aroma of the chicken soup coming from the boiling pot. "I've been thinking about them," I say, walking closer to her. She scoops a little of the soup for me to taste. "Them?" she asks, handing over the spoon to me. I nod, grabbing the spoon and bringing it to my lips. The hotness

Chapter Five
“Oh, thank God. Could you please help me out?” I asked politely, feeling desperate to be out of the ditch.“How come you were in a ditch just now?” He asked as he pulled me out of the ditch with both his hands. How should I explain in a situation like this? How was I supposed to tell him I sneaked out of the house simply because my dearest mother didn’t give in to me starting my training today? I had totally forgotten he was helping me out as thoughts of what to tell Gabriel.“Thank you… Omph!” My face his chest as I tried to gain my balance. I can swear that I almost developed a headache from my head coming in hard contact against his chest; it felt like I hit a hard brick wall. There was an unbelievably strong scent emanating from him. It smelt like mint and then hawthorn wood… It was weird and very masculine but it was very strong, too strong in fact.Gabriel retracted from me suddenly, as if jolted by electricity. I looked up at him and I can swear; why am I swearing again? But th

“But Mother, why didn’t you ever tell me what happened. You only told me Grandmother had died of an unknown illness” I finally asked the question that has been bugging my mind since Mother told me the truth about her mother.Mother pulled out of my embrace and wiped off her tears as she tried to calm herself down.“I didn’t want my daughter to think of me as a child that pushed her own mother to her death” She sniffed and continued “I always felt guilty every time I remembered my mother died because of my stubborn and disobedience on the attempt of wanting to be free. It’s good to want to be free, Alice… Very good because it gives you a sense of independence but sometimes, when warned; even though you can’t see why you’re told otherwise, you should still adhere”“Alice, I promise that I don’t go strict on you simply because I have some kind of instigation towards you, that’s very untrue. You are my daughter after all; but as you were growing, you were this stubborn kid who was convinc

Alice’ POVI laid weirdly on my bed, my hair sprawled across the pillows as I stared blankly at the ceiling. I really wasn’t expecting to be the Alpha’s mate, who am I? Some newbie who doesn’t even know the first thing about being a werewolf. I’m such a joke. No matter how hard I tried to not think about this whole situation, I couldn’t help it and not feel self-conscious; it was unavoidable. But on the bright side, I get to start training really soon. Mother can’t keep me away from the pack and considering the fact that I’m Gabriel’s mate, I’m pretty sure she wouldn’t want to get on his bad side which is a great thing for me. I grinned thinking about how I was starting training soon. I’m definitely going to see Zara and Tad again. Is Gabriel going to train me personally or I’m going to be trained with the other youngies?‘Calm down, smart pants. Why would the Alpha train you personally? I’m sure he has a lot to deal with at hand and besides, he hasn’t accepted you to be his mate yet’
