Darlington Briggs:

After the maids left us, my mother waited for Samara to join us for dinner at the table. My mother inquired, "Darlington, how about Jenna? I hope you're calling her?"

"Yes, Mom. I did," I replied, looking away and staring at my meal while Samara approached and settled beside my mother.

"Is Amara not joining us for dinner?" Samara asked as she sat down. My mother replied before I could, "No. I had warned her not to sit here with me and have her dinners. She's not my daughter-in-law, and I only tolerated her before because your father was around. Amara isn't welcomed here, and the best we can do is to treat her badly so that she can leave."

"Okay," Samara said, not looking happy. I asked her, "What's wrong, sister?"

"Nothing, I was only asking about her," Samara said. I knew she had some other things to say, but she didn't want to discuss it in our mother's presence.

"Okay, let's eat now," I replied, and my mother blessed the meals. I saw the maid returned downstairs
