Kai's POV

"The banquet will go well though I miss you very much." I cooed into the phone while my Luna giggled.

She was away from me while we hosted a banquet and I had to admit that it was very tasking. I was competent and capable of hosting a large banquet with my pack members and other associates as my guests, but there were some things I didn't like to do alone; this was a part of it.

I'll be back soon. Whatever I'm here for will benefit the both of us, so just do your best. I love you.

My lips stretched into a smile as I declared my undying love for her over the phone and ended the call. Standing before my wall mirror, I straightened the collar of my black tuxedo, remembering how Tracey would have been so eager to do it.

Everything was in place, I observed. So I snatched my car keys and headed for the event center. No doubt, the party will be carried by the media as usual.

If only they knew that half of the guests were not humans, we would have been banished or placed under experiment by scheming scientists who wanted to make names for themselves. Not like I would let them harm us without giving them a hard time, though.

I discarded the thoughts that burnt like hot coals and went to the elevator that would lead me downstairs. I checked my time to ensure that I wasn't running late, as punctuality was something I never joked with.

There was one hour left for the banquet to begin and it wouldn't take me more than thirty minutes to get to the venue. When the elevator dinged, I stepped out and walked into my Bentley Continental GT.

Driving was fun for me, otherwise, I'd have gotten a driver for myself. Stepping on the accelerator, I sped up to the center.

"Welcome sir, you look good." One of my staff complimented me as I replied with a brief smile. I was approachable so it wasn't hard for people to speak their minds around me except they were being offensive.

"Thank you, Lorena. Please make sure that the guests are comfortable where they are." I ordered and she nodded and walked away.

I stood in the middle of the hall, watching the activities that were going on to make the event a success. My eyes darted to the pillars that were adorned with white and gold linens.

It was my choice. Gold exuded royalty and white, calmness. My heart was filled with satisfaction when I saw how excellent the decoration was. Next, I moved to the kitchen to inspect the food.

I gave the chefs opportunities to showcase their skills and didn't bother choosing the dishes for the banquet. Several inviting aromas emanated from the pot, reminding me that I hadn't eaten dinner yet.

"Well done, guys. Hurry up because the banquet will soon begin." I applauded them and walked away while they bowed in appreciation.

As I stepped back outside to enjoy the evening breeze, my eyes caught the sight of a lady pinning her gaze on me. Instantly I recognized her as the woman from the night before.

I walked towards her, my heart skipping a bit as I drank in the sight of her looking very enticing and alluring. She wore a short sleeveless emerald dress that had a long slit that cut all the way to her mid thighs.

I remembered the night before when we slept together on impulse. The memories came flashing before my eyes as my dick twitched with desire.

"Fuck! Not here." I cursed and stopped when she cat walked towards me.

Her steps faltered as she closed the distance between us and her face molded into uncertainty like she had something to tell me but didn't know how to go about it.

I remembered how sad and broken she was about the infidelity and breakup with her ex that night and tried to connect it with the beautiful face I was seeing now.

"Hi, stranger." She greeted rather boldly.

"Hello. It's surprising to see you here. Again." I added quickly and resumed walking toward the dark part of the building.

She didn't reply immediately until we got to the darker part of the building. "I came here to see you for a very important reason." She spat and I could tell from her quick intake of breath that whatever news she had for me wasn't good.

"I don't think I want to hear it. Besides, how do you know that there'll be a banquet tonight?" I questioned and she squinted her eyes, surprised by my question.

"It was all over the news. Have you forgotten that you are a public figure and any news that concerns you spread fast?" She asked.

I chuckled then schooled my face into a mask of calm. "That should be your reason for being here then. You discovered that I'm rich and you want to have your own share of the money. What do you want to be? My mistress?" I asked, teasing her in several ways while her beautiful face turned red in anger. Even the layers of powder that her face was douched with, couldn't hide the anger that glared on her face.

"I won't have you belittle me just because I came to talk to you. Is this how you are with people? Now I have to check the strength of the alcoholic drink I ordered to be sure that it was the reason I slept with you." She snarled.

The atmosphere was getting thick with our arguments and the banquet was about to start.

"Look here, beautiful stranger. I'm married and just because we had a one-night stand doesn't mean something can work out between us. Whatever happened that night was as a result of the bad day we had and several bottles of alcohol.." I stated and she began to chuckle which turned into a serious bout of laughter.

It wasn't funny anymore and I'd already made my point clear.

"Well, we weren't careful as well because you left your seed inside of me." She blurted, wiping the tears that rolled as a result of the laughter from her face.

My ears tingled after what she said. "You don't mean that, do you?" I asked to be sure that my ears weren't playing pranks on me.

"Of course I do. Do you think I want to have anything to do with you? I'm stuck with your child and I don't think I'm capable of taking it out. I decided to inform you about it but if you don't want the child, I'll leave and you will never see me again." She said with so much boldness.

My heart leaped for joy with her announcement. "What proof do you have that you are really pregnant?" I asked, keeping my feet steady on the carpet-leveled grass.

"Here," She handed me an envelope and I read through it.

I just wanted to be sure that she was pregnant before trying to find out if the child was mine. Heaven knew that I needed a child, not just for having one but for the child to be my successor.

My curiosity was satisfied when I confirmed that she was truly pregnant. "You are pregnant." I agreed and she gave me an I-told-you-so look.

"So are you going to take responsibility for the child?" She asked, straightening her dress that had climbed further, exposing her upper thighs.

I shut my eyes to stay focused. For the first time in a while, I was confused about what to do. I was in a fix and no one could help me, not even my wife.

She was the main reason my heart was in turmoil.

"I…" My words were interrupted as I heard footsteps advance towards us.

"Sir, the banquet is about to begin and we need you to come and give an opening speech," Lorena said and I nodded.

She glanced at the both of us with a questioning look that she couldn't mouth.

"Make sure no one hears of what you saw or heard here." I threatened.

The last thing I wanted was for my wife to find out that I was talking to a woman in a compromised place.

"No one will sir. But you have to hurry up now." She said and walked away, not after passing glances at us.

"Please wait for me, I'll be back soon." I pleaded and walked away.

She stared at me in dismay but I couldn't tell her anything yet. I couldn't accept that she was carrying my child yet for two reasons. Tracey would have a fit and she would never forgive me for betraying her that way. Secondly, she had an ex before me, and it was very possible that they slept together before she met me.

Still, a smaller part of my heart wanted to believe that I had a child to call my own.

"What do I do?" I muttered as the glass doors parted for me to enter the hall.
