Delilah's POV:

The next morning, at the breakfast table, Xee's phone rang. As I was sitting right next to him, I glimpsed at the screen and saw Lucas's name flashing on it. I stole a glance at Adeline whose eyes were fixated on the screen as well. Xee rejected the call and straightened in his chair.

Silence fell over the table. Rolling her eyes, Adeline spoke up, "You guys don't have to walk on shells around me." Slicing the toast, she looked at us, "I am not a heartbroken teenager who will start whimpering and crying just at the mention of his name so no need to treat him as a forbidden topic." She pointed her fork at Xee's phone, "You can pick it up."

Clearing his throat, Xee raised his eyebrow, "I never knew that I needed your permission before doing what I want to do." Smiling blankly, he said mockingly, "Thanks for letting me know, by the way."

Adeline's eyebrows drew closer in a frown, "I mean, you don't have to ignore him just because of me."
