Chapter 23

Opal's POV

Lil took the lead as we exited the basement. She peeked out the side windows to make sure Susi had indeed left us alone. After confirming Su left, she ushered me to follow her out the front door. My heart was hammering in my chest, trying to break out. I didn't know if it was fear or the thrill of fear. One thing we knew, and that was Susi, was hiding something from us.

Lil stopped and turned to face me; her face posed in a half-smile. "Maybe we should check the house first? What if she has dungeons?"

Surprised that we hadn't thought of that first, I motioned to the wilderness that lay before us. "Good point! Let's hurry up out here and head back in. I'm getting shivers already."

"Me too..." she giggled as we both rubbed our arms.
