Chapter Eight
Logan Novak
I called my apartment landline for what could've been the tenth time, hoping that Khloe was only in a deep sleep, and would soon pick up the phone. However, that wasn't the case. Cursing softly, I grab my jacket from the back of my office chair, and rushing out the door, I almost bump into Chris who was on his way to my office.
"What's got you in a rush?" He questioned.
"Khloe's not picking up the phone," I explain, heading towards the private elevators with him following behind me. I still wasn't certain whether or not she was in danger. However, I still had this nagging feeling that something was off. It wasn't the first time I'd called her to check up on her. However, it wa
Chapter NineLogan NovakI sat in the hospitals' waiting room, staring at the wall- the world and everything else completely forgotten. I knew not the day, or the time, or how long I've been here- sitting, waiting for news; any news. I couldn't say anything. I didn't need to. It was hard to get myself to do anything but sit here, thinking- pondering. How could life be so cruel? Why did bad things happen to the good people, and vice versa? I'd asked myself that question so many times, it felt like a pledge- myanthem.I've aged more for the past week than I've done in years
Chapter TenKhloe AndersonThe darkness faded. Not completely, but the restraints that I'd once felt were no longer there. There was nothing to prepare me for this- the sense of freedom that I felt I'd needed all my life. It just happened. The mist blew in a particular direction. Why? It seemed to be taking me somewhere specific. I followed. Obscurity and oblivion no longer felt like a confinement. Darkness felt more illuminated. My fears no longer dominated me. I felt freedom. It hadn't arrived completely, but it was close. So very close. The light shined brightly. Brighter than the afternoon sun on a sunny day. It wasn't only a light. It was life. A new life that greeted me, and
Chapter ElevenLogan NovakLondon, EnglandI entered the bar, ignoring the stares I received from the patrons in there. I'd been to this bar a few times before whenever I traveled to London for business. It was high class and numerous wealthy people went there. This is just what I needed. To drown myself in alcohol and pick up a girl to take back to the hotel that I would be staying at. I'd forget about Khloe in no time.I walked up to the bartender and he instantly recognized me. "Mr. Novak, welcome to London," he said in professional mode. "What can I get you this evening?"I took a seat on one of the stools and replied, "
Chapter TwelveKhloe AndersonI generously put the toppings on for the pizzas I'd planned on making for the afternoon, biting my lower lip and concentrating on the task at hand. It was rush hour and customers were calling to place orders or stepping in for lunch or to pick up their boxes of goodies.I'd been back in NY for two days and had basically been in a hurry from my apartment to the shop and back. Many people were placing orders for wedding cakes although they would be married till summer. My staff had done a marvelous job in the months I'd been away. They knew of the circumstances of my injury and why I hadn't been to work in a while. However, having it been a somewhat secret incident, they knew that they couldn't tell anyone.
Chapter ThirteenKhloe AndersonGrabbing a handful of popcorn from the bowl on my lap, I ate the salty snack. I came home early tonight, and had decided to spend the rest of the night in my apartment watching reruns of the TV showRevenge. I was exhausted being on my feet for the past few days, and not having a peaceful sleep during the night. I'd planned on having an early night, but my dreams were completely washed away.I bolt upright at the sound of the doorbell. 'Who's at the door?' I thought. I wasn't expecting anyone. And I certainly wasn't in the mood for any guests. Besides, I was dressed in a t-shirt that I'd stolen from my brother Cody and a pair of leggings that weren't for the eyes of any company.
Chapter FourteenKhloe AndersonUsing icing, I designed what was the last of one hundred and twenty cupcakes I'd baked earlier, and placed it in its rightful box. It was Friday- Logan grandmother's birthday. I'd decided to prepare two dishes for the meal which I could only guess is a three course meal. The dishes I chose were scalloped potatoes and chicken enchiladas. And for dessert, I prepared different flavored cupcakes each with their unique icing design, and brownies which would be best served with vanilla ice cream and syrup.I was prepared. Everything was in containers or trays, just waiting to leave my apartment. It was about 4:56 pm and Logan would be arriving any time soon. I'd long ago made up my mind to make him wait just ali
Chapter FifteenLogan NovakI looked at Khloe as she slept so peacefully in my arms, her head buried in my chest. She'd fallen asleep on the ride home from my grandma's party and I'd decided to put her to bed, which explains having to carry her. Heading straight to her door, I held her in bridal style, and her handbag as best as I could. She was so petite in my arms and so peaceful when she's asleep. When we arrived at her apartment door, I placed her on her feet for a second, keeping a hold on her and keeping her standing upright while asleep. She didn't even blink. Her head moved to my shoulder, her hands grasping my flannel shirt as tightly as she could. I smiled at this. She didn't seem aware that she was doing this, but it did make me h
Chapter SixteenKhloe AndersonI sat at my office desk looking at the calendar of events. It was later in the afternoon after the rush hour had long cooled down, and I'd recently left the kitchen to accept orders via phone calls. The upcoming month already seemed to be busy and I couldn't help but be excited.Downstairs, the staff were doing their normal duties and customers were swarming the shop for desserts.I'd just hung up from a wedding cake order when I heard a knock on the office door.Stacie, one of the waitresses walked in. She beamed. "Hey, Khloe. There's a Mia Novak here for you."I looked at her in disbelief, while pro
