CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO

I stirred in my bed as the alarm clock that sat on the table, rang in my ears, disrupting that little moment of peace. I knew that my eyes had bags under them and that I was a hot mess.

Speaking of hot, the weather had suddenly become a bit warm. Maybe so warm, that it had become slightly uncomfortable for me. Sitting on my bed, I rubbed my eyes before I caught sight of a mockingbird that had perched itself on my window's pane as if adding an ironic touch to the start of the day.

It flew off almost immediately but that was just the least of my worries at the moment. I hate to admit it, but I genuinely felt concerned for Alistair. He had been rushed to the hospital last night by his assistant.

His condition before he was taken away, broke my heart and it made me wonder what he was going through. He never appeared to me as a man, suffering from a trauma of any kind.

Was it related to the girl he had killed?
