Cole:
The human girl makes me dizzy.
She has olive skin with a tinge of red by her cheekbones. And the freckles on the edge of her cheekbones reminds me of the stars half-hiding in the rosy-pink clouds before the sunset. The sunset I always dream of in my nightmares.
“I’ve never seen a girl having such a sweet tooth. ” Avery, one of the twin boys, accosts her with a smile.
“I do physical exercise every day.”
Avery’s gaze runs over her beautiful body. “Yeah. You don’t have to limit your sugar intake to me. What sports do you do? Maybe I’d join you next time.”
My wolf is agitated. I don’t like her, but I hate it more that Avery’s flirting with her.
“Nobody cares about what you think. And if you really must know, I always do the sports which can make condescending assholes behave politely, especially to ladies. ”
“No babe, you got it wrong, I save all my respect for the ladies. Cole can testify, right?”
No way. I clinched my teeth to contain my wolf’s growl.
Weirdly, she glances at me quickly and replies to Avery as calmly as just now. “I’m not your babe, asshole.” Then her sparkling indomitable eyes fix on me. “Is there any rules about taking how many pieces of a dessert?”
Why do her eyes feel so familiar?
Suddenly, my nightmares flash back. I shake my head to shake off the sad segments.
“No. Help yourself but remember, we do have rules and you’ll learn from me soon.”
“Well good luck with that. I don’t conform to narcissistic assholes so you might learn from me instead”
I raise my chin.
This is why I don’t agree with Uncle Derek about allowing humans into our territory. They are just of indocility, though this one is quite pretty. We’re the largest, wealthiest and strongest pack, and PSA, the No.1 security company in the world, was founded by my grandfather to utilize our wolf senses to protect weak creatures like humans. But now, I, taking part in PSA since 16 as an enforcer, have to act just like a human.
I turn around and take my group out of the cafeteria, realizing that humans are not the worst part of this camp: the famous Jewel Coven from Bloomer University are here too.
Uncle Derek always asks me to be civil with those witches because of the recent treaty; and technically allowing the humans in can make them stop being suspicious that there is something supernatural here, and also make them the buffer amongst us wolves and the witches.
Bullshit.
Witches are vile, manipulative and they will just wait for when they can stab you in the back or more murder your entire pack.
How do I know?
They destroyed my family.
“Hey, look on the bright side, new chicks so fresh meat.” Uncle Derek’s son Skye winks at me.
“Like Sherry?” I notice the red-haired slut girl clinging to Skye all the way has been finally driven away to her people.
“Your plan for Sherry ain’t working? What a shame!” Skye’s sister Sam mocks.
“Damn! That chick is crazy, no matter how much I try to bore the shit out of her, she still sticks like a bad smell. I’m just grateful for not sleeping with her. She seems like the type who will force a mating onto you by telling the elders I took her virginity.” Skye drags a hand through his hair. “But Dad wants me on my best behavior because her uncle is the Alpha of the neighbor pack. ”
I roll my eyes. Sherry’s uncle sent her here to mate with Skye and become Luna of our pack for securing his alliance with us. She surely is acting as if she is in charge already by bossing some of the lower pack members. But she never achieves what she wishes because the next Alpha of our pack will be me.
The present Alpha, Uncle Derek, is my father’s fraternal twin brother. They have different facial features, personalities and life choices. Dad gave up the Alpha title because Mum wanted to travel around the world. So Uncle took over his job. But when he resigned, I’ll carry on the Alpha duty as I should do. Thanks to the Moon Goddess that Sherry doesn’t know the truth.
And I refuse to settle down with just anyone so our pack can have a Luna. The only person that will stand at my side is my Silver.
After the orientation patrol in the cafeteria, we go to the auditorium. Uncle Derek called a PSA pack meeting there while the visiting universities are stuck in the dorms.
“All right everyone, I know this evening is going to be the start of the longest three months of our life but if you really think about it, we are actually killing two birds with one stone: The humans that were poking around our area for our privacy have been shut with the internship, and the witches from the Jewel Coven have been roped to solidify our treaty now. ”
I look at my uncle standing on the podium where my father used to stand.
“I want all wolves attending campus to behave well, especially the enforcer candidates.” He turns to me with a meaningful look. “We need to maintain our appearance. So the shifting has been scheduled. As well as enforcer training has been relocated to the back of the mansion. Eat in the cafeteria. Never skip classes. Use the gym with the proper restraint that we have agreed on.”
That elicited groans from majority of the pack members.
“I know it is going to be hard but if we want to continue to enjoy our hard-earned peace, we are going to have to sacrifice a bit now. We do not want the humans questioning us. Just keep this in your mind: it is in your hands to let this pack stay honored and true for what we stand for!”
“Honor, Truth and Peace!” The entire pack says together.
Uncle Derek nods his head towards us. “Okay then. Assistants for incoming university students will be led by Beta Marie; enforcers and trainees go to your enforcer head Ty for the new roster and patrolling plans. Dismiss!”
As we head towards Ty, the twins Andre and Avery catches up to us.
“What’s the enforcer training exactly for?” Avery asks Ty throwing an arm over my shoulders. I shrug it off and scowl at him; I don’t like to be touched by anyone.
“To you guys, the training will make you blend into human society. You’ll be sent to the human police department for investigation missions. ”
My scowl shifts to Ty. “You know my alpha vibes will definitely expose my strength. The humans might find out I’m not part of them and be unwilling to cooperate with us. We can’t afford for that because I need the witches to continue thinking that I am not a threat.”
“Exactly, that’s why this is your task. Besides the training, you’re also in charge of keeping our wolves from having fights with humans and witches in this university. So restrain yourself.” Ty says sternly. “When you see how badly other creatures are injured, hurt, and even murdered, you will understand how significant your job is.”
“I’ll only understand how weak they are and how unworthy to know them.” I mutter to him. But the next moment, the brave human girl’s face jumps out of my mind.
No, she won’t be an exception.
Emma: After enjoying the delicious meal and tart, we go to the auditorium for orientation. Cole and his “Paradigm Royalty Group” (a nickname Lei came up with for them) are taking their seats in the center as we walk in. He and I have an eye contact when I pass him by, which sends shivers down my spine. Grrrrrr... I stop and frown. There’s a restless growl somewhere but I don’t see any animal around. And it seems like nobody notices that except me. Cole looks away. I start to suspect that I just had an illusion because of his influence on me. Liz grabs me to sit down. She and Shanny, with the other students from Paradigm University sit in the front row of this aisle; Lei and I with the students from Trinity Universi
Cole: Emma. I think deeply, trying to figure out why her name sounds so familiar to me. But Rachel’s stagy voice is so annoying. “...We have the glass broken on the door, the dishes broken on the floor, and the blood splattered on the counter. There is a note that makes it like a suicide but the hand writing is rushed with a bit of blood droplets on it. And if we take a look at the body hanging from the fan, there is no chair anywhere around. So how could the dead hang himself? Besides, there’s hair on his clothes that does not belong to him. All of these mean he was murdered by someone.” I don’t like the superior and scornful way Rachel looks at Emma. Both of them are humans, weak and mediocre. She’s no better than Emma. “Well then Emma, what’s your deduction?” Dete
Emma: Sam is a nice, well-trained pair, even though she’s one of those snobs. We went blow for blow, really having fun until the beast growl started to haunt me. I ask Sam to stop and take a water break. My mouth is dry, not only because of the training, but also for catching a glimpse of Cole’s muscular arms. His t-shirt, which has become semitransparent, practically sticks to his sculpted body. I can almost feel the droplets of sweat carrying heat running over his skin. The beast keeps growling, sometimes excitedly, sometimes irritably. I’m not sure it’s from Cole or Avery because this pair are too close. They are good fighters with graceful movements. But I find myself hard to focus on both of them because my attention is always drawn back to Cole.
Cole: The yoga pants gluing to her body perfectly shows her body shape. She’s not skinny but more curvaceous. I see a tattoo on her lower back when her t-shirt rolled up as she raised her hands to coil her black hair into a bun. Every time she moves, the tattoo ripples on her silky skin. My wolf growls. I feel dizzy again. She suddenly turns around with her fear blowing to me. I become alert and tense my body. “You shouldn’t be here now.” It’s my shift to patrol around. I realized by scent that someone was in the gym. I thought it was because of the distance that the scent was ambiguous. She must have walked along the path near the forest to the gym. And dawn is dangerous for a human girl, especially here. We have wolves everywhere; besides, God knows what those witc
Emma: "What kind of monster are you? How are you even real? And who the hell are you calling a witch? Do I look like a fucking witch to you" I try to shove his hands off my neck. He looks like a maniac. Cole looks at me with his brow furrowed. I know I am not going crazy, everything about him points to something supernatural that I have come across in books. He adds more pressure to my neck making it a bit difficult to breathe properly. "Don't play innocent here" "Maybe we should take a few steps back" Gryphon interrupts. "What the hell is going on?" some guy screams and Cole's hands on my neck relaxes and I use all my strength to shove him off me. "She is a witch Ty" Cole points towards me. "No I am not and you are a monster" I try to get as far as I can away from him but he catches me by the back of my shirt. "I can solve this" Gryphon pipes in and we all turn towa
Emma: I am running again in the forest and the beast is just behind me. The exit of the woods seems so close and just as I turn out I come across a field full of wolves fighting with other wolves. There is different colors in the air and I can see people standing there. I turn looking for someone but I can't remember who. I run to the middle and something slams into me from behind. Then I see Lei and she is on fire. I can't control the pain that radiates through me and I fall. I awake with a splitting headache. I look towards the clock and it is after 6, well I have to admit that is first time. For the past two years my nightmare always woke me at 4. Rubbing my eyes I turn towards Lei and she is sitting there staring at me. “What?” “Who are you and what have you done to my best friend?” I look at her with confusion “Huh?” “You are late for work” “Oh shit” I run into the bath room and see that I have my sport
Cole:I was having such a relaxing evening and then trouble came in the form of Emma. I tried my best to keep my eyes off her when she was on the dance floor but once Malcom put his hands on her my wolf took over. Avery just agitates him more by flirting with Emma. I keep reminding my wolf that we belong to Silver.“What the hell is your problem?” Emma asks and I turn towards her and get a proper look of her up close and her scent fills my senses and my wolf starts fighting for control again. Wanting to show everyone that she belongs to us. I manage to shove him back and notice that Emma was not talking to Malcom but to me.“Come again” I say.“I could have handled that myself” she shoves me.“No doubt, trouble” I smirk at her because I know that pisses her off.“Huh?” she looks at me in confusion. Memory can be such a fickle thing.“Well what do expect to happen to you
Emma:Of course having a shitty night and tons of alcohol does not even stop the dreams from flooding in and here I am up at 4am. I have a quick shower and head out of the silent dorm because who would be up this early.I head to the gym and see that it is closed, I can’t take it I need to let out all this excess energy so ignore the rules and put my air pods on and strap my phone to my thighs and start to run. I know the route in the back of my head so I close my eyes and continue a head. The only good thing is that the running trail does not go into the forest.A sense of peace settles in me and I let my body do all the work.So caught up running I stumble on something, opening my eyes I see piece of a bloody arm on the ground and I let out a scream into the dead silence thinking that I am in my dream and that the monster is going to come for me next. I shut my eyes in the hopes that I am just imagining things.Someone grabs me and I scream
