Chapter Forty Two

"She's dead okay! She's dust now!". All I could hear was the anger in his voice, see the unshed tears in his eyes and my heart broke. I should have left it alone. I shouldn't have pushed him to tell me who she was and now he hated me more than he did before.

"I don't want your fucking pity." He walked up to me as I stood stock-still in the doorway. "You want me to be happy? Leave me the fuck alone!". He roared in my face then pushed me out and slammed the door shut.

I tried not to lose my balance with the force but there was nothing between me and the ground so I used my hand to cushion my fall and almost immediately a sharp pain sliced through my arm.

"Your Majesty!". Michael came running. "Are you okay?".

I really hoped Michael had not seen anything or heard anything. It'd be embarrassing to look at his face and see the pity for me there in his eyes.

"I slipped." My voice shook. "I'm okay."

Michael took my hand to help me up and as he pulled, I felt that sharp pain again
