Chapter Seventeen

I jump awake to find myself back in my hospital bed, my mother sat beside me looking down to the floor. She hadn’t noticed that I had woken up, but I got a sense, something wasn’t right about this situation.

“Mum?” I ask worry clear on my expression; she lifts her hand to her face and seems to wipe away tears before she shows me her face with her faint smile.

“My little sunflower, it’s great to see you awake.” She smiles taking my hand in hers, but I wasn’t dumb and knew she was hiding something to spare my feelings.

The door opens and in walks my father, he also had remanence of tears on his cheeks. But once the door closes behind him and no one else walks in, I begin to feel sick to my stomach.

“Mum, where’s Scott?” I ask the terrified feelings that had been growing from seeing both parents cry start to reach a bubbling over point.

I knew Scott had been injured, but I was told he was being taken into surgery. The doctors were able to help me, so I knew they’d be able to do the same
