Avaline King
I wish I hadn’t listened to Dahila, but now it was too late to start regretting it. Even though she meant well, I still felt that I should have stayed home and waited for Kyle to return home. He wasn’t pleased to see me; I could tell by his attitude towards him. It was strange how Kyle had transformed into a cold human within a few weeks. I remember pointing it out to him, and guess how that ended? He blamed me for everything. Fine, I know I messed up, but it's not new. CEO wives cheated on their husbands occasionally, and their marriages didn’t crash. Why was my own different?
I slowly stood up from the bed and walked into the bathroom to cool my brain. An hour later, I was out, but I was still angry, frustrated, and lonely. Kyle had left me again, and I knew it was because of the stupid Roberts project. That’s it! I was going to pay him a visit at the hotel. I just needed the name, and Bing would produce the address. I slid into a mini yellow gown that showed more cleavage than I wanted and did my hair in a bun. I also took time with my make-up. I wanted a nude look that captured people’s attention, most especially Kyle. I had to show him what he was missing. After I was done, I ordered a taxi and skipped to the kitchen. Luckily, the chef wasn’t a difficult man to coerce answers from. He gave me everything I needed to get to Livingston Hotel and Resorts.
I checked my outfit again before leaving the house. It was time to pay my husband a surprise visit. I stopped at a cafe to buy his favourite muffins, chocolate cookies, and pineapple bottled juices. The taxi driver finally arrived at the magnificent hotel, but I wasn’t impressed. These people were one of the reasons why Kyle didn’t want to have anything to do with me. I suppressed the urge to find Tessa and eliminate her. She was my nemesis. I wish I had gotten pregnant for Kyle, but thanks to that stupid mistake in college, I couldn’t. Now, the barren pig was suddenly not barren anymore. I felt myself shiver. I had become the other barren woman.
The guards weren’t friendly. They insisted I pass through the routine checkups, and after that, I wasn’t allowed to wait in the lobby or reception because I wasn’t one of the guests. I tried to explain to the receptionist that my husband was Kyle King, but she didn’t believe me even after seeing the photos of both of us. In her words, if I wasn’t getting a room or related to the Roberts, I had no right into the hotel.
Before I could yell at the receptionist, the security guards escorted me outside. I called Kyle after I realized they weren't going to let me in after all my threats.
‘What do you want, Ava? Be quick about it; I am busy at work!’ Kyle said it hastily.
I could read the displeasure in his tone, but I wasn’t bothered. Damn the surprise.
‘I am at the hotel, but guards didn’t let me in. Okay, they did, but the receptionist insisted I buy a room or leave. Can you call and affirm that you’re my husband? It’s drizzing already, and there’s no shed around here if it starts raining.’
He replied, ‘Ava, I warned you not to come here, but like always, you decided to do your thing. I am not even at the hotel right now, and as you are aware, it’s not my property but the Roberts, so I have no authority. I will advise you to take a cab and return home before you get drenched.’
I cried, ‘But I wanted to surprise you, Kyle, and don’t lie to me. The receptionist affirmed that you were around, but in a meeting. I promise I won’t disturb you once you give them the affirmation. I also brought your favourite snacks, babe.’
‘Go home, Avaline, and stop embarrassing yourself. I already told you I was not in the hotel at the moment. Take care.’
The line went dead, and as if on cue, the rain started falling. I rushed to the hotel door, but the deadly looks of the guards made me turn back. I threw the pack of muffins and cookies on the floor and rushed to the parking lot. Thankfully, there was enough shade for me and a few people that followed me.
I brought out my phone but noticed weird stares from the elderly couple and some men. I checked my outfit and immediately knew the reason for their stares. The gown was a transparent one, and I hadn’t worn any underwear because of my aim to seduce Kyle. Thanks to the rain, my make-up was ruined, and I was officially a half-nude woman scruntinized by a strict couple and hungry men.
I ignored their stares and focused on sending a text message to Dahila to report her son. She was the only one who could bend Kyle to do her will, but lately, I was beginning to think that she had lost that hold on him. However, she was my only ally in this battle to win Kyle back, so she will do it for now.
After an hour of listening to the elderly couple’s words of advice about my clothing, the rain finally stopped. I left immediately and was about to stop a taxi when a limousine stopped, and I saw her.
The nemesis. The reason why Kyle was so indifferent to me was: Geneveive Tessa Robert.
I wanted to mock her as soon as our eyes met, but her presence and pose mocked me. She looked so beautiful and dignified. I noticed the scrutiny in her eyes as she checked my outfit, and before she could utter a word, I jumped into the waiting taxi and yelled at him to drive fast.
This was one of the worst days of my life.
Geneveive Tessa RobertI stared at the taxi and laughed. Ava did look pathetic and drenched. I wasn’t surprised she had jumped into the taxi without saying anything, even though I could feel the hate in her eyes. It wasn’t my fault Kyle was preparing to dump her; it was her fault. If she was looking for anyone to blame for the downfall of her marriage, she should blame herself.I wondered what she was doing here, though. Probably to see Kyle. From her drenched appearance, it was obvious the guards hadn’t let her in and Kyle wasn’t around. If not, I was certain he wouldn’t be cruel enough to let his wife stay outside and get beaten. Anyway, it was their business. I came to check up on the progress of the third restaurant. According to the project plan, Kyle’s team was supposed to be rounding up this week if there were no more mistakes. Dad was still pissed that he had be
Kyle King‘What’s wrong with you, Ava? Why does everything always have to be about you? I warned you not to come here, but you disobeyed me. I warned you not to come to the hotel, and again, you disobeyed me. You even had the audacity to wear a skimpy dress! Ava, honestly, I am tired, and this has to end.’Ava stood up, clenching her fists. ‘You aren’t going to end anything, Kyle. You love me, and I love you too. I made a mistake, and I apologised for it. Can’t you forgive me?’I shook my head. ‘I have forgiven you, but I am sorry; we can’t be together anymore. I'm in love with someone else.’‘You are in love with Tessa?’ She asked, shock written on
Avaline KingI watched Kyle step out of the Roberts Villa and drive off. I couldn’t believe my eyes. So, he couldn’t wait to get me out of his life before he started visiting the bed of Tessa! He didn’t even have one iota of shame. I slammed my hands on the driver’s seat and yelled at the driver to follow him. I was going to confront him, then report him again to Dahila.I wasn’t going to sign the documents, but my threat? I was going to fulfill it and teach Kyle a lesson he won’t forget. He couldn’t leave me for that ugly woman! Right now, I didn’t care that she was the mother of his kids; all I saw was a potential threat to everything I had worked for in my life, including my marriage.
Geneveve Tessa KingI read the text that Kyle sent again. It was more like a warning than a concern. His mom was in town, and he wanted me to be careful. Careful about what? I wasn’t afraid of his mom, and I hadn't even done anything to her, so why should I be careful? Except she wanted to harm my kids. I forwarded the message to James. He would know what to do with it.Also, it might be Kyle’s way of telling me to prepare for an epic battle. After yesterday’s conversation, I knew he wasn’t going to stop until he had his chance with me and the kids.Kyle King.I replayed the conversation I had with mom after Kyle left. She had questioned my feelings for Kyle and wanted to know if I sti
Avaline KingI smiled, enjoying the horrific look on Tessa’s face. ‘You should learn to answer your elders respectfully. Now, where were we?’Tessa shook her head. ‘You shouldn’t have done that, Ava. Those project plans took your cousin and me weeks to create. I hope you have a good reason when she questions you about this.’‘You will redo them because Muna is one of your biggest clients. Anyway, she will believe her blood more than you. I will just tell her you were angry about her suggestions and decided to trash them. That should do it, right?’Dahila agreed, ‘Yes, that’s smart. Now, back to the reason why we are here: Tessa, I heard a rumour, and I need to confirm it before I take further action. Those kids are with you. Is Kyle their father?’Tessa smiled, adjusting her red hair. I could tell she wasn’t afraid of us, but she was relaxed, which wasn’t the expression I expected from her.‘I don’t owe you or Avaline any answer about my personal life. If this is why you and her showe
Kyle KingI ignored the bottle that Xavier dropped beside me and continued ranting about Avaline and my mom. Luckily, Xavier got the message and allowed me to curse and lament about the fall of my marriage with Avalline. I also told him everything that happened at Tessa’s house and my next plan.‘I thought you were going to say, ‘It’s over, man. Let’s get our things and return to our beloved country.’ and not this. Well, you never listen to me, so I am not surprised.' Xavier repiled, adding more ice cubes to his beer.I glanced at him and said, ‘I had to see her, Kyle. She finally agreed to let me see her, even though the terms of the meeting were against me. Right now, I don’t think I will be returning to the States on Saturday. No. I have to finish this race.’Xavier laughed. ‘I don’t get you, man, but whatever. If you want to continue this thing with Tessa, I will advise you to do something about Avaline. She’s scaring me, to be honest, and I don't think I will love to stay in the
Avaline KingI wanted to make my last day in the United Kingdom a memorable one, so all night while everyone slept, I stayed up and browsed various places I could visit, but one place caught my interest. It was a book club that was holding a fashion-themed session. I used to be a lover of books years ago before I focused my creativity on getting fashion gigs for the family and myself. However, my love for books didn’t die. No. I kept them close to my heart, and upon entering the King's family, I knew I had made the right decision because I discovered Kyle was a lover of books too. Although I never revived my interest, some days when I was bored, I strolled into his library and picked up captivating titles and scanned through them. I registered for the book club and read through their events. They had a lot of activities, and everything was packed with glamour, spiciness, and uniqueness. I couldn’t help but wonder if they would be open to new members. Okay, visiting members. An hour
Genevieve Tessa Roberts I was fidgeting. I heaved a deep sigh and pulled the hem of my dress to cover my knees. Taking a glance at the wristwatch strapped to my wrist, I noted with great angst that it's been over twenty minutes since the Doctor walked out of the room on an excuse to get back to me soon. Sighing again, I rubbed my palms together before picking up my phone to check if I had any missed calls or anything of the sort but nothing stood out to me. I started to put my phone away when the door opened and I stopped and turned toward the woman that had walked in. Sitting up in my seat, my eyes followed Doctor Brown’s movement till she finally settled back in her seat which was right in front of me, separated by a huge desk that had a bunch of stuff I wasn't interested in on it. “Sorry for the long wait, Mrs. King. Here is the test result.” She smiled softly before handing me the results. I hesitated for a second, my heart leaping with what I didn't know as I eyed the unse
