Kyle King
‘What’s wrong with you, Ava? Why does everything always have to be about you? I warned you not to come here, but you disobeyed me. I warned you not to come to the hotel, and again, you disobeyed me. You even had the audacity to wear a skimpy dress! Ava, honestly, I am tired, and this has to end.’
Ava stood up, clenching her fists. ‘You aren’t going to end anything, Kyle. You love me, and I love you too. I made a mistake, and I apologised for it. Can’t you forgive me?’
I shook my head. ‘I have forgiven you, but I am sorry; we can’t be together anymore. I'm in love with someone else.’
‘You are in love with Tessa?’ She asked, shock written on her face. ‘But you told me you never loved her during your five years of marriage. How can you love her now?’
‘You won’t understand, Ava. I made a mistake, and now I am rectifying it. But with you being here, you are disrupting my plans and my chances of getting back to Tessa. I have booked a flight for you for tomorrow. It leaves by noon. Pack your belongings and the divorce papers. I have signed my part, and I urge you to do the same. I am no longer interested in this thing called marriage.’
She laughed, looking strangely at me. ‘You are joking, right? You know you can’t return to your vomit. Your mom won’t allow you to do so. She doesn’t even like Tessa. Baby, I know I messed up, but please don’t throw what we have away.’
I smiled. ‘You are leaving tomorrow, Ava. Please don’t create any scenes as you leave. You have done enough damage to my reputation, and I don’t need more.’
‘I am not leaving, Kyle. I won’t let that woman steal you from me! You loved me before and after her, and just because I couldn’t give you a child, that doesn’t give you the right to just cast me away!’
‘No, you are wrong. I didn’t cast you away, Ava. You did that by yourself. I stayed with you even when your red flags were so embarrassing. I told myself you would change and become a better person, but I was wrong. I loved you, but did you ever love me, or were you after my family’s name and the security my money provided? I feel you used me to get those deals and lift your family’s drowning status up.’
She yelled, ‘I have told you repeatedly that my family’s status doesn’t need your helping hand. I am going to sign the divorce papers, but I will make sure you suffer for throwing me away like thrash.’
I stared at her, wondering why I hadn’t seen the real Avaline all these years. Maybe because I was satisfied with being in love with her and okay with the security and happiness that came with being married to her. But that was all.
‘Avaline, if I were you, I would be careful of my words. You know, Attorney Smith wanted me to send evidence of the threats you have made on my life so far, but due to the respect I have for your parents, I refrained from doing so. I will leave you to rest now.’
She hissed and stormed out of the room. I smiled. I had finally put her in her place. I brought out my phone and blocked my mom’s number. I had a feeling Ava was off to report me to her, and right now, I didn’t need my mother’s irritating threats. I had a date to meet up with. A family date.
_I walked into the Roberts estate, and I was astonished. How much was Tessa’s family worth again? I couldn’t remember, but I knew my family didn’t reach out to them. I was still amazed that Tessa had left everything just to be with me, and at the end of the day, I ended up divorcing her. At that time, it was a pleasurable thing to do because her parents had cut her off, but now it is one of the things I regret doing.
I just hoped that tonight I would be able to atone for my sins, finally.
The housekeeper ushered me into the massive living room. I was given a glass of juice and some biscuits while the housekeeper informed me to wait. I took in the eloquence and beauty of the house and noticed Tessa’s signature artworks around the room. As much as I wanted to feel envious of her success, I knew she had done greatly for herself, unlike Ava.
I still felt hurt by her betrayal, but I wasn’t going to let that weaken my decision.
Tessa’s voice interrupted my reverie: ‘Oh, you are here. Unfortunately, my dad travelled for an urgent meeting, but my mom and James are here. Please, follow me, Kyle.’
She led me to a larger room, which seemed like a library because of the books surrounding the walls. James and Mrs. Roberts were seated together, engrossed in an argument. Tessa’s cough announced her presence.
‘Right. Kyle King, my daughter said you wanted to speak with us?’ Mrs. Robert asked, without beating around the bush.
I swallowed, not liking the straightforwardness. ‘I actually wanted to speak to just her, but it’s good you and James are here.’
Tessa said, ‘Just get on with what you have to say. James and my mom have an appointment to stay at the hospital.’
‘I just want to apologise for everything that happened between us, Tessa. Also, for the Roberts project and tricking your father into signing a contract deal with me. I was so desperate then, and greed blinded me. I hope you can forgive me, Tessa. I have lived with this guilt ever since I saw you in California. ‘
Mrs. Robert laughed, ‘You really think we are stupid, huh? I know why you’re doing this, though. You know the twins are yours, and due to the obvious fact that your hookup wife can’t have a child, you want to play a repentant soul and claim your position as the father of the children. Anyway, I am sorry to disappoint you, but that’s not happening. Tessa might forgive you, but you won’t be Nicholas and Hope’s father!’
I sucked my teeth, feeling the venom in her words. Right there, I knew that whatever I had hoped would come out of this was all in my head. I pushed it anyway. Worst scenario, I will piss them off, but at least I knew I had tried my best.’
‘Mrs. Robert, Tessa, I am really sorry about everything, and I know it feels like my messy marriage is the reason I am trying to rectify my mistake. But, I am honest right now, even if Tessa didn’t have those kids, I would still seek her out and plead for forgiveness because I know I was wrong.’James rose up, glancing at his wrist watch, and said, ‘Man, your time is up. Try your luck next time. Big sis, you got anything to say?’
Tessa shrugged, standing up. ‘I forgive you, Kyle, but like my mom said, you can’t be a father to the kids. Your time is up.
Avaline KingI watched Kyle step out of the Roberts Villa and drive off. I couldn’t believe my eyes. So, he couldn’t wait to get me out of his life before he started visiting the bed of Tessa! He didn’t even have one iota of shame. I slammed my hands on the driver’s seat and yelled at the driver to follow him. I was going to confront him, then report him again to Dahila.I wasn’t going to sign the documents, but my threat? I was going to fulfill it and teach Kyle a lesson he won’t forget. He couldn’t leave me for that ugly woman! Right now, I didn’t care that she was the mother of his kids; all I saw was a potential threat to everything I had worked for in my life, including my marriage.
Geneveve Tessa KingI read the text that Kyle sent again. It was more like a warning than a concern. His mom was in town, and he wanted me to be careful. Careful about what? I wasn’t afraid of his mom, and I hadn't even done anything to her, so why should I be careful? Except she wanted to harm my kids. I forwarded the message to James. He would know what to do with it.Also, it might be Kyle’s way of telling me to prepare for an epic battle. After yesterday’s conversation, I knew he wasn’t going to stop until he had his chance with me and the kids.Kyle King.I replayed the conversation I had with mom after Kyle left. She had questioned my feelings for Kyle and wanted to know if I sti
Avaline KingI smiled, enjoying the horrific look on Tessa’s face. ‘You should learn to answer your elders respectfully. Now, where were we?’Tessa shook her head. ‘You shouldn’t have done that, Ava. Those project plans took your cousin and me weeks to create. I hope you have a good reason when she questions you about this.’‘You will redo them because Muna is one of your biggest clients. Anyway, she will believe her blood more than you. I will just tell her you were angry about her suggestions and decided to trash them. That should do it, right?’Dahila agreed, ‘Yes, that’s smart. Now, back to the reason why we are here: Tessa, I heard a rumour, and I need to confirm it before I take further action. Those kids are with you. Is Kyle their father?’Tessa smiled, adjusting her red hair. I could tell she wasn’t afraid of us, but she was relaxed, which wasn’t the expression I expected from her.‘I don’t owe you or Avaline any answer about my personal life. If this is why you and her showe
Kyle KingI ignored the bottle that Xavier dropped beside me and continued ranting about Avaline and my mom. Luckily, Xavier got the message and allowed me to curse and lament about the fall of my marriage with Avalline. I also told him everything that happened at Tessa’s house and my next plan.‘I thought you were going to say, ‘It’s over, man. Let’s get our things and return to our beloved country.’ and not this. Well, you never listen to me, so I am not surprised.' Xavier repiled, adding more ice cubes to his beer.I glanced at him and said, ‘I had to see her, Kyle. She finally agreed to let me see her, even though the terms of the meeting were against me. Right now, I don’t think I will be returning to the States on Saturday. No. I have to finish this race.’Xavier laughed. ‘I don’t get you, man, but whatever. If you want to continue this thing with Tessa, I will advise you to do something about Avaline. She’s scaring me, to be honest, and I don't think I will love to stay in the
Avaline KingI wanted to make my last day in the United Kingdom a memorable one, so all night while everyone slept, I stayed up and browsed various places I could visit, but one place caught my interest. It was a book club that was holding a fashion-themed session. I used to be a lover of books years ago before I focused my creativity on getting fashion gigs for the family and myself. However, my love for books didn’t die. No. I kept them close to my heart, and upon entering the King's family, I knew I had made the right decision because I discovered Kyle was a lover of books too. Although I never revived my interest, some days when I was bored, I strolled into his library and picked up captivating titles and scanned through them. I registered for the book club and read through their events. They had a lot of activities, and everything was packed with glamour, spiciness, and uniqueness. I couldn’t help but wonder if they would be open to new members. Okay, visiting members. An hour
Genevieve Tessa Roberts I was fidgeting. I heaved a deep sigh and pulled the hem of my dress to cover my knees. Taking a glance at the wristwatch strapped to my wrist, I noted with great angst that it's been over twenty minutes since the Doctor walked out of the room on an excuse to get back to me soon. Sighing again, I rubbed my palms together before picking up my phone to check if I had any missed calls or anything of the sort but nothing stood out to me. I started to put my phone away when the door opened and I stopped and turned toward the woman that had walked in. Sitting up in my seat, my eyes followed Doctor Brown’s movement till she finally settled back in her seat which was right in front of me, separated by a huge desk that had a bunch of stuff I wasn't interested in on it. “Sorry for the long wait, Mrs. King. Here is the test result.” She smiled softly before handing me the results. I hesitated for a second, my heart leaping with what I didn't know as I eyed the unse
Genevieve Tessa Roberts My body stopped moving but my fingers didn't. I stood there, eyes wide with disbelief and apparent shock as I listened to my husband, Kyle go on and on about a lot of things I was too shocked to decipher. He was talking to Xavier, his childhood best friend who had always been in our lives. I had no idea what to say to that or what to think. My heart must have died on the spot because I suddenly found it hard to breathe. Grasping the fabric of my coat, I willed myself to take in deep sharp breaths but it was extremely hard. All I felt was pain. Excruciating pain that rendered me numb. “But, do you really think that you need to do that? Maybe you should take more tests or consider another option. IVF? Surrogacy?” Xavier was talking, asking the mother fucker I called my husband. “IVF, we have already done and concluded. Nothing's worked out. My mother would have my head at the thought of surrogacy. You know how uptight she is and how she wouldn't bend to the sc
Genevieve Tessa Roberts I laid in bed quietly with tears in my eyes, waiting. Five years that I'd been married to Kyle and I'd never received that level of disrespect. The disrespect was too much. I couldn't take it and the more I thought about it, the more the tears wouldn't stop flowing. I hated to think for even a second that it was because of me that this was happening. I knew exactly the time Dahlia and Katherine finished dinner and left. I also listened as he went straight to his study instead of coming to the room. My heart clenched. The Kyle I had married would have come into the room to check on me. Scratch that, he would have cautioned his mother the moment she opened her mouth and came around to check up on me to see if I was okay. The more I thought about it all, the more it hurt and it got increasingly harder for me to stop the tears. Kyle finally walked into the room at around two in the morning. The room was dark but I watched him move about, shuffling things and arra
