Geneveive Tessa Robert
I was in the middle of writing a proposal letter to a friend of a prospective client when I remembered that today was when Vera was to meet Murphy and his parents at their family house in Bristol. I sent a quick text to her. Don’t be nervous, babe. Just be yourself and remember what I told you.
She replied immediately, I am still regretting the outfit I wore, even though Murphy has whispered several times into my ears that I look lovely.
I shook my head as I replied. Vera could exaggerate at times. According to the picture you sent, I think you look gorgeous, girl, and Murphy is right about you looking lovely.
Alright, his parents are nice and receptive. I will tell you about everything once I return home!
I dropped my phone, smiling widely. I had met Murphy’s parents. His father was Dad’s stepbrother, Stephen, and he was a nice, pleasant man, while his wife, Naomi, was the definition of a pure-hearted soul. I suspected the only issue they were going to have was Vera’s past relationships. Even though Murphy had forgiven her past, I couldn’t tell of his parents.
Anyway, I hope everything went well for her. She deserved a great man, and Murphy definitely checked all the boxes. I returned to the proposal letter when a knock on the door distracted me. Mom peered in.
‘Baby girl, you look tired. Did you sleep at all last night?’ Mum asked, throwing her bag on the couch.
I sighed, ‘I tried my best, Mom. Aren’t you supposed to be resting?’
She had been scared a bit a few days ago when she complained of heartburn. The doctor blamed it on stress and an unhealthy diet. He instructed her to rest properly and reduce her job activities, but knowing mom, we knew she wouldn’t follow his instructions. Dad employed a part-time nurse to ensure she took her drugs and rested. I could see his tactics weren’t working.
She ran her fingers through her short blonde hair and said, ‘I am better than a few days ago, and I feel holed up in that house with that poker-faced nurse your dad hired. I promise to tweet during the weekend, but for now, let me enjoy today with you.’
‘Alright, mum. What can I get you? Did you eat before leaving the house?’
She scoffed, ‘Of course. The poker-faced nurse forced me to eat a lot of vegetables with my yam porridge. I wasn’t even allowed to have a chicken lap!’
I laughed. Mom could be a child at times. ‘Your nurse name is Tabitha, mom, and she’s just following the doctor’s order. You aren’t pissed about that, or are you?’
She replied flatly, ‘I just miss eating chicken, lamb, and beef. Can you tell your dad to return me to my regular diet, and I promise not to overwork henceforth?’
‘No, mom. It’s not overworking that is the problem, but the travelling and showing up at every place. You don’t rest, and it’s telling on you already. It’s just three months, anyway, so I am sure you can wait, right?’
‘Well, I can. So, Kyle. Your dad said he found out about the kids. Has he confronted you yet or said anything?’
I replied, admiring the swift way she had changed the topic. ‘I am not sure he has found out the truth, but Xavier heard most of my conversation with Vera, and the hospital called yesterday to say that Kyle checked the files of the kids. I am going to deal with that rat who told him, by the way. Anyway, he hasn’t confronted me about it, but I know soon he will do so. I noticed something else.’
Mum sat up, reading my expression, ‘What did you notice?’
‘He has stopped following and showing up at the meetings. You know how he used to follow me and create unreasonable excuses? He has stopped all of that. Do you think he is planning on suing me? For keeping his children away from him?‘ I asked, tears welling up. ‘I know I should have told him about them, but look at how he treated me, mom. Five good years, and he sent me out of his house with nothing to my mom.’
Mum stood up, gathering me into her hands. ‘It’s okay, darling. I know he won’t try anything, though. He’s afraid of our family, and he knows what kind of trouble he might get into if he decides to sue you. A can of worms will be opened, and he will be taught a lesson.’
I sniffed, ‘Are you sure, Mom? I don’t want to be caught unexpectedly. Kyle King doesn’t give up easily. I also heard his wife is in town.’
She whistled, ‘Wow. Avaline is here. Why? Is it because of the divorce?’
I wish I knew, mom. I just don’t want any of them near my kids, especially Avaline. That woman is evil!’‘You don’t need to worry about the kids' protection. James and the two security guards would ensure no harm comes their way, okay?’
I nodded. ‘I wish we hadn’t met in California, Mum. He wouldn’t have known about the kids or anything about me.’
She hushed me, ‘It’s okay. I know I caused part of it. If I hadn’t signed that deal with Mayor Kim, this wouldn’t have happened.’
I smiled. ‘Don’t blame yourself, mom. You were looking out for me and my financial security. So, would you like to come over to the house to see the kids? They've missed you.’
‘I would love to. Why do you think I brought an extra bag? I will be spending the weekend at your place, away from your dad and poker-faced nurse.’
I chuckled, standing up to check the bag. She had come prepared. ‘You won’t stop calling her poker-faced, will you?’
She shook her head and replied, ‘No, I won’t until she starts smiling, of course. I don’t know why your dad couldn’t hire a sexy male nurse instead.’
‘Mom! You have a sexy husband already!’
She giggled, ‘I am just joking. Don’t worry, Tessa, we will get through this phase together.’
I nodded and hugged her fully. Everything was going to be alright, hopefully.
Avaline KingI wish I hadn’t listened to Dahila, but now it was too late to start regretting it. Even though she meant well, I still felt that I should have stayed home and waited for Kyle to return home. He wasn’t pleased to see me; I could tell by his attitude towards him. It was strange how Kyle had transformed into a cold human within a few weeks. I remember pointing it out to him, and guess how that ended? He blamed me for everything. Fine, I know I messed up, but it's not new. CEO wives cheated on their husbands occasionally, and their marriages didn’t crash. Why was my own different?I slowly stood up from the bed and walked into the bathroom to cool my brain. An hour later, I was out, but I was still angry, frustrated, and lonely. Kyle had
Geneveive Tessa RobertI stared at the taxi and laughed. Ava did look pathetic and drenched. I wasn’t surprised she had jumped into the taxi without saying anything, even though I could feel the hate in her eyes. It wasn’t my fault Kyle was preparing to dump her; it was her fault. If she was looking for anyone to blame for the downfall of her marriage, she should blame herself.I wondered what she was doing here, though. Probably to see Kyle. From her drenched appearance, it was obvious the guards hadn’t let her in and Kyle wasn’t around. If not, I was certain he wouldn’t be cruel enough to let his wife stay outside and get beaten. Anyway, it was their business. I came to check up on the progress of the third restaurant. According to the project plan, Kyle’s team was supposed to be rounding up this week if there were no more mistakes. Dad was still pissed that he had be
Kyle King‘What’s wrong with you, Ava? Why does everything always have to be about you? I warned you not to come here, but you disobeyed me. I warned you not to come to the hotel, and again, you disobeyed me. You even had the audacity to wear a skimpy dress! Ava, honestly, I am tired, and this has to end.’Ava stood up, clenching her fists. ‘You aren’t going to end anything, Kyle. You love me, and I love you too. I made a mistake, and I apologised for it. Can’t you forgive me?’I shook my head. ‘I have forgiven you, but I am sorry; we can’t be together anymore. I'm in love with someone else.’‘You are in love with Tessa?’ She asked, shock written on
Avaline KingI watched Kyle step out of the Roberts Villa and drive off. I couldn’t believe my eyes. So, he couldn’t wait to get me out of his life before he started visiting the bed of Tessa! He didn’t even have one iota of shame. I slammed my hands on the driver’s seat and yelled at the driver to follow him. I was going to confront him, then report him again to Dahila.I wasn’t going to sign the documents, but my threat? I was going to fulfill it and teach Kyle a lesson he won’t forget. He couldn’t leave me for that ugly woman! Right now, I didn’t care that she was the mother of his kids; all I saw was a potential threat to everything I had worked for in my life, including my marriage.
Geneveve Tessa KingI read the text that Kyle sent again. It was more like a warning than a concern. His mom was in town, and he wanted me to be careful. Careful about what? I wasn’t afraid of his mom, and I hadn't even done anything to her, so why should I be careful? Except she wanted to harm my kids. I forwarded the message to James. He would know what to do with it.Also, it might be Kyle’s way of telling me to prepare for an epic battle. After yesterday’s conversation, I knew he wasn’t going to stop until he had his chance with me and the kids.Kyle King.I replayed the conversation I had with mom after Kyle left. She had questioned my feelings for Kyle and wanted to know if I sti
Avaline KingI smiled, enjoying the horrific look on Tessa’s face. ‘You should learn to answer your elders respectfully. Now, where were we?’Tessa shook her head. ‘You shouldn’t have done that, Ava. Those project plans took your cousin and me weeks to create. I hope you have a good reason when she questions you about this.’‘You will redo them because Muna is one of your biggest clients. Anyway, she will believe her blood more than you. I will just tell her you were angry about her suggestions and decided to trash them. That should do it, right?’Dahila agreed, ‘Yes, that’s smart. Now, back to the reason why we are here: Tessa, I heard a rumour, and I need to confirm it before I take further action. Those kids are with you. Is Kyle their father?’Tessa smiled, adjusting her red hair. I could tell she wasn’t afraid of us, but she was relaxed, which wasn’t the expression I expected from her.‘I don’t owe you or Avaline any answer about my personal life. If this is why you and her showe
Kyle KingI ignored the bottle that Xavier dropped beside me and continued ranting about Avaline and my mom. Luckily, Xavier got the message and allowed me to curse and lament about the fall of my marriage with Avalline. I also told him everything that happened at Tessa’s house and my next plan.‘I thought you were going to say, ‘It’s over, man. Let’s get our things and return to our beloved country.’ and not this. Well, you never listen to me, so I am not surprised.' Xavier repiled, adding more ice cubes to his beer.I glanced at him and said, ‘I had to see her, Kyle. She finally agreed to let me see her, even though the terms of the meeting were against me. Right now, I don’t think I will be returning to the States on Saturday. No. I have to finish this race.’Xavier laughed. ‘I don’t get you, man, but whatever. If you want to continue this thing with Tessa, I will advise you to do something about Avaline. She’s scaring me, to be honest, and I don't think I will love to stay in the
Avaline KingI wanted to make my last day in the United Kingdom a memorable one, so all night while everyone slept, I stayed up and browsed various places I could visit, but one place caught my interest. It was a book club that was holding a fashion-themed session. I used to be a lover of books years ago before I focused my creativity on getting fashion gigs for the family and myself. However, my love for books didn’t die. No. I kept them close to my heart, and upon entering the King's family, I knew I had made the right decision because I discovered Kyle was a lover of books too. Although I never revived my interest, some days when I was bored, I strolled into his library and picked up captivating titles and scanned through them. I registered for the book club and read through their events. They had a lot of activities, and everything was packed with glamour, spiciness, and uniqueness. I couldn’t help but wonder if they would be open to new members. Okay, visiting members. An hour
