Geneveive Tessa Robert
I paced the room, disregarding Vera’s questions. She had arrived in California last night while I was at the party. Her boss had chosen her to complete a job for a client. It was urgent, and Vera was the only expert who could deliver it in two weeks. She didn’t want to come, but her boss was very convincing and offered a sweet offer that Vera couldn’t say no to. I'm glad she didn’t change her mind. I had foreseen this happening. Seeing Kyle unexpectedly and reliving everything he did to me. Thank goodness that James gave me a heads up; if not, I wondered if I could have challenged him like I did last night. I could still feel his hands on me. The fool! He had the guts to tell me he wanted to ask for forgiveness after four years of silence! I wish I had slapped some sense into him, but I didn’t want to spoil the mayor’s party. ‘What’s going on in your head, Tessa?’ Vera asked, getting up. ‘Your pacing is making me nervous. Did something bad happen at the party?’ I stopped, settling on the bed. ‘I saw Kyle yesterday, or better yet, he approached me at the party, grabbed my hand, and was pleading for forgiveness. I can’t believe the audacity of that idiot! After four good years, you are trying to make peace? After he stole from me, destroyed my parent’s grant plans, and turned me into a laughing stock, Vera, you should have seen how pathetic he looked!’ Vera settled next to me, surprise still written all over her face. ‘But, babe, I thought he was in Nashville? How did you meet him at the party? Don’t tell me he has been stalking your movements because that will be creepy.’ ‘No, he wasn’t following me. According to the mayor, he came for a three-week A.I.A.I. workshop. They invited him to the party because of the mayor’s friendship with his late father.’ ‘Oh, alright, but that doesn’t solve anything. We have to make sure he doesn’t discover this place. He will see the kids and start snooping around or foddering them. I am certain you don’t want them to meet him, right?’ I nodded. I have been evading questions about Kyle from the twins. Every time a classmate speaks about his or her dad, they will return home and start interrogating me about who their father is and why he wasn’t staying with us. I already told them that Kyle left me before they were born, but they didn’t believe me. Hope had even called me a liar. A little four-year-old who knew nothing about this world was now an expert on who was a liar and who wasn’t. Nevertheless, I didn’t want them finding out about Kyle or him getting to know them now. He wasn’t worthy to be their father. ‘I just need to round up this project as soon as possible, and we can return home.’ I replied, staring at her. ‘I know I can’t run forever, but right now, I don’t want him around me or my kids. He’s still with Ava, and I don’t have the strength for unnecessary drama.’‘I understand you, dear. I hope he stays away until you are done. I would hate to see him show up unexpectedly.’
‘Same here. I have to go to the hotel, though. We just completed the major part of the project, so I need to supervise the team to ensure they don’t rush the remaining phases. Would you like to come, or does your company's client need you?’ She smiled and said, ‘I will check up with you once I am done with the client. Thank goodness, it’s just a rebranding phase they need me for. Once I am done helping resolve this, girl, I am going to be spending my remaining days shopping with the twins and Estella.’ I laughed. ‘You haven’t changed, Vee. I thought you wanted to use the extra week to rest?’ She was given two weeks for the rebranding phase, but she demanded three weeks because of the complexities of the product. As always, they had to agree with her terms. She scoffed, ‘Don’t be a joy killer, sis. Shopping is a kind of relaxation, and, you know, it’s been a while since I came to the United States! Three good years! I have missed my father’s land, girl.’ ‘Alright, have fun, and please stay safe when you are out with the twins. I don’t want Kyle to know they are his children yet.’ ‘You don’t have to worry, Tessa. California is a huge place.’ I sighed. It was definitely a huge place, and yet he found me at a party. I hoped he would remain scarce until I returned to the United Kingdom. I didn’t want to think of the money I had created years ago to repay everything he did to me.***
There’s time for everything. Time to plant and a time to harvest. Today was one of those days when I harvested my good fortune at the Cauldron Bank. Seven years ago, before I divorced Kyle, Cauldron Bank was selling government bonds to top CEOs and high-end consumers at an interesting rate. I informed Kyle about it, but he wasn’t interested and warned me against investing. I didn’t listen because my dad had invested in some during his younger days, and the interest that came with the payout was what built the Roberts empire. So, I discussed it with James and my parents, and they agreed I should go for it. I am certain everyone forgot about the bonds because of the year attached to them. I almost forgot too, but Cauldron Bank kept reminding me of my monthly mail, and today they sent a mail informing me that my bond payout was ready. I ensured every task I had with the team was completed before driving over. Now, I was seated with other bond beneficiaries. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on my payout. What is the good thing about everything? I had acquired forty percent of my initial payment for the bond, and this update increased my financial status. I was probably on the top ten list of the richest women in the world, unofficially for now.‘Miss. Robert! Oh my! It’s truly you in the flesh!’ A lady yelled, walking towards me.
Geneveive Tessa RobertShe looked very familiar, but I couldn’t tell where I had met her before. Her blond ponytail gave her full face a strange, familiar look. Probably an old high school friend who decided to add weight? ‘Good afternoon, Miss Tessa. It’s been four years, and you still look the same. I wish I could say that for myself.’ She breathed rapidly, taking the empty seat beside me.I smiled a little and said, ‘Yeah, four years. I don’t think I recognise you, though, but your voice is familiar. Could you please help me out? Where did we meet?’She looked horrified. ‘Wow, I must have added a lot of weight for you not to recognise me. It’s Imogen? Your secretary at the King’s company?’What? I looked at her again. She looked different from what Imogen I used to know. Her eyes were still the same dark brown colour, but her facial features had chan
Kyle KingI thought I would be free after seeing Tessa, but I got worse. The realization that someone else could get her pregnant and give her those beautiful children I saw hit harder. I had failed woefully. The triumph in her eyes as she delivered the news made me feel like a loser.Four years ago, I thought I made the best decision by divorcing Tessa, but now I am beginning to feel stupid for returning to Ava. If I had waited, maybe those kids would be mine now, and I wouldn’t be worrying about not having an heir to the King’s company. I caught myself immediately. It was too late to start regretting because it was obvious Tessa would never be mine again, or could she?Xavier walked in with a pack of pizza. ‘You have been moody since we returned from the workshop. Did Ava call again?’Ava had been calling frequently to deny access to our joint account. I told her several times t
Geneveive Tessa RobertThe mayor’s mansion design project was going slow, and it disgusted me. I couldn’t wait to complete it and leave California. I had given up finding a pretend husband in case Kyle showed up unexpectedly again, even though Vera thought I shouldn't. She advised me to call Kanebi and plead with him to pretend to be my husband and get back at Kyle for everything. I disagreed; I didn't want to look like a child. I already planted the idea that I would remarry and have children. That alone was enough to make him jealous and hurt. I had a feeling he would regret everything that he had done to me. Good for him. ‘Why are you smiling at yourself?’ James asked, sitting on the couch opposite me.I was in the parlour resting after helping Estella put the kids to bed after a long, hectic day. I couldn’t rest, of course, because of Kyle.‘Kyle. I am worried he will start investigating my claim about a
Kyle KingI checked my outfit again before stepping down from the car. I hoped Tessa wouldn’t run off once she realised that I was the representative of the D.K. tech company. Uncle David wanted to fly over, but I assured him that I wouldn’t mess it up. Tessa would have no choice but to stay because her father had already agreed to the contract details. All we needed was to run through the plans for the job, and I would send a go-ahead to the team in Nashville.I walked into Dio’s lounge. I had picked an open environment because I wasn’t sure if it was going to be Tessa or her brother who would show up. Seeing her now, I was proud of my decision. I took a last glance at Robyn’s rare collection suit and a pair of specially made black shoes by an old friend. I looked exactly like my title: The Billionaire CEO.‘Hello, Mrs. Tessa,’ I smiled, taking my seat. ‘I am sorry for keeping you waiting.’She rose i
Geneveive Tessa Robert‘Mummy, Kim said, Daddy travelled to heaven. Is that true?’ Nicholas asked, staring fully at me.‘What? Who is Kim?' I inquired, wondering what kind of child would tell another child such a thing.Nicholas replied, ‘Kim is my seatmate. Her dad brings her to school in a fancy car every day, and she always has stories to tell about her father. I have nothing to share about Daddy. Is he in heaven?’I shook my head, hugging him. ‘Your daddy isn’t in heaven, okay? I told her he left me before I had you and Hope. That’s the truth.’‘When would he come back? My friend wants to meet him. They only see you and Auntie Estella most of the time, mummy.’I smiled, holding his hands. ‘He will come one day, but till then, see me as your mummy and daddy, okay?’He nodded. ‘Alright, mummy. Can I go outside and play?’‘No, young man. We were
Kyle KingThe workshop seminar is ending this week, but I hadn’t booked my ticket to leave California. I was confused and unable to sleep at night because I kept thinking about Tessa. I tried to search for her location, but I got nothing. Mayor Kim had refused to give him her address because of what happened at the anniversary. The Kings had been officially cut off from the mayor’s list of favourable people. I rose from the couch, took my glass of juice, and walked outside. Xavier was with his study partners. They had their final examination on Friday, and Xavier had created a study team for people who were interested.I was supposed to be with them, but I would be of no use due to my lack of concentration. My phone vibrated. A message from Uncle David. He wanted to know if I had given Tessa her copy. I sighed. How could I find someone who didn’t want to be found?A few days ago, I went to the mayor’s h
Geneveive Tessa RobertThe last few days had been eventful. Kanebi agreed to be my fake husband because he wanted Kyle to pay for what he did to me. I also advised him to tell his fiancee, so there wouldn’t be any complications. I just needed Kanebi for a week, depending on when Kyle showed up unexpectedly. He was good at that lately.I smiled, watching him give piggybacks to Nicholas. Hope was engrossed with her toys, and Vera wanted to engage with them. It was beautiful watching them. It almost felt like a complete family, only that Kanebi wasn’t their father. Kanebi had promised not to say anything to the kids about pretending to be their father. We didn’t want them to get attached after he left. Although it seemed like it was too late for that wish, Nicholas and Kanebi were getting along after just a few days of meeting. The doorbell rang. I looked up from the carrots I was chopping. James was sleeping, and I wasn&
Kyle King‘Honestly, Xavier. I shouldn’t have listened to your advice! You need to see the way she treated me in the presence of her husband. Like I was some trash not worthy to be in her presence. I was embarrassed and felt so stupid.’Xavier chuckled. ‘Don’t blame me, man. You were the desperate ex-husband, and I jumped in to help out. I can't predict what will happen when you get there, so you shouldn’t blame me.’I glared at him, ‘Of course. You were the same person who claimed your instincts were always right. How come Tessa served me breakfast?’‘She didn’t. You served her first, remember? Besides, you still haven’t debunked the claim that the children aren’t yours.’ he smiled.I scoffed, ‘She is married, Xavier, and I saw her husband. He is real, and the kids are his, not mine. He was defensive and wouldn’t even let me speak
