Chapter 6. Going into a mortal world

"I'm not mad. It's just… I'm not used to it. I told you we're contrary despite being your mate. If there's one thing I've been craving for," I trailed off, not knowing how to express myself. "That's the peace."

There was a mark of perplexity as I stated those words, and I could sense his overflowing worry by the way he scrutinized every inch of my face as if he was searching for a clue.

Unhesitantly, I struggled from under his embrace but stopped halfway when his fingers curled around my wrist, preventing me from leaving; he held me in place, unwilling to let go. Then he pulled me gradually toward the table, which surprised me.

"Is there anything wrong?" he asked gently; the warmth in his tone made my heart stutter. "Did I offend you?"

"No. That's not what I mean."

"Then what? What makes you so distant? There must be a reason, and as your mate, I want you to be honest with me."
