Chapter 7. The Attackers

"Well, because I thought I might be your mate."

At first, I expected him to scoff at me. I should have known better; he was not one to mock someone like me with that kind of matter. But instead, he smiled, albeit a small one, and laughed suddenly. "Just kidding!"

The apprehension that kept bubbling inside vanished as it quickly changed into a sigh, and I laughed slightly to conceal my emotion.

"The truth is I have never wished to have such. The only person who has made me happy was you." there was no indication of lies the moment he conveyed those words, just sincerity.

"And that's also the thing I told Alpha earlier. That you and my family are paramount of all."

He nodded, clearly satisfied by my utterances. I continued walking, but then I was forced to stop when he called my name again, causing me to turn around and face him. "Yes?"

"Just in case you don't feel good about staying with the Alpha's house, feel free to tell me. I'll find a way to help you."
