His question caught me off guard and for a good two minutes, I couldn't make out any words in reply.

It had hit too close to home and I wondered what prompted him to ask that.

He took my silence for an answer and pointed his fork at me.

“That's what I thought,” he said dismissively.

He was really trying to justify his actions Hy that question. Makes me wonder what blows life had dealt him.

A pained look crossed his features and for a second, it tugged at my heart strings wondering what he had been through but the problem had been his tone.

He had asked the question in such a demeaning way like life had been all glitters and rainbows for me.

Maybe, yes.

But the past month has been nothing but an endless tunnel of doubt, uncertainties and pain.

“Next time, before you think in the devil himself, remember that life isn't fair to anyone and the earlier you get rid of your emotions, the more likely you are to survive in this cruel world,” he said.
