Chapter 47

I stared at his broad back as he went over to stand by the window.

I was still in shock, not by what happened but by the look I had seen on his face when I opened my eyes.

It was the softest, most caring look I'd ever seen on anyone's face. Like the look one would give to an injured puppy.

His touch was soft and feathery and when each time he pulled out a glass and fanned it with his mouth, my eyes involuntarily fluttered close.

I never knew he had this gentle side to him.

“.....okay?” A friendly voice broke me out of my thoughts.

I looked at him expectantly but his own look mirrored mine and I realized he was waiting for a response.

What was his question again?

“Huh?” I blinked.

“Let me know if you feel any pain,” he repeated.

“Okay,” I whispered and my eyes left the greying doctor to the brooding man that had his back to me.

The man got to work on my legs and I bit my lips to keep from crying out.

To keep myself distracted, I looked around Ares' room for the first time.
