Chapter 2

Matilda POV

“My Lord, Lady Matilda is here.” the person I saw earlier announced to my parents who were in the hall, I was about to step feet into the hall.

“Who asked you to address her with such formalities?” I stopped as soon as my mother’s voice fired at him.

They haven't changed one bit.

“I wonder! She wouldn’t have been here.” my father snorted in annoyance.

“I told you never to bring her back.” my mother queried in anger.

“I wouldn’t have but she’s necessary now.” he reminded her.

All these while, I have been standing at the entrance with my head lowered to the ground. I dared not step in without their permission. All I did was listened to their rant until they exhaled in unison.

“Oh! Look what we have here.” it was Hilda’s voice. I turned to her and she scoffed, rolling her eyes disgustingly at me.

“Hil…” I began.

“Who brought her back?” she asked curtly walking away from me as she approached them.

“Come in, you fool!” my father’s voice yelled and I nodded like a coward as I walked into the hall.

“Who asked you to blonde your hair as you left?” my mother asked me in anger as I faced her. Actually, I stretched it; she only exaggerated.

She wasn’t pleased to see me and she also wasn’t happy to see me looking good, even more, elegant than their spoilt child.

“Mum, I…” I started but she shunned me with her hands in the air.

Hilda approached me and snatched my black box from me, she opened it and started pouring out everything.

My purse, my hot bum shorts and dresses, my lip gloss, perfumes, and other lovely lady accessories scattered on the ground as she started picking the ones that attracted her attention.

“A brat like you doesn’t deserve all these.” she sneered at me in disgust.

I thought she was joking but my jaw dropped when her personal maid came in and started taking out all my things, I was left with nothing - not even the birthday bracelet that Kevin gave to me. I would have requested it but if she knew it was precious to me, she wouldn’t give in and we would end up arguing until we ripped the bracelet.

I sighed sadly and faced my father.

“I received a call from Uncle Thomas, why did you call me?” I asked courteously.

“We have a task for you,” he said with a livid voice.

“A task?” I was confused as I stared at him with curiosity dancing in my eyes.

“You will be getting married soon.” my mother spilled and I exhaled deeply in relief.

Have they realized that I was made for Tony, my mate? And the best to do was push me to him since he was a Gamma. They would only sell me out to worthless and harmful things.

“Thank you very much father, finally you understand your child’s heart.” I bowed with a smile enveloping my round face.

I was super happy.

I haven't seen Tony for ages but meeting him again and sharing this news with him would be a dream come true, he would be so happy. I couldn’t wait.

“You will be getting married to the king, Alpha Moses Darvon.” my father broke out the news and my eyes wide open in astonishment.

“What?” my mouth hung in the air.

It came so unexpectedly and who could be this Alpha? Unfortunately, I didn’t know much about him or I was still confused.

“Dad, that’s impossible.” I began.

“I already have a mate and he promised to marry me. So, why should I marry King Moses?” I questioned anxiously.

“You have no say in this!” my mother shunned me with her finger in the air, she was annoyed.

“I can’t get married to him.” I paused.

“If I could remember correctly, he is the same king that killed two wives in one year. Why do you want your child to marry him?” I cried out bitterly,

Everything dawned on me, I knew the whole story about King Moses and I can’t afford to be his prey this time. Never!

“When I ask you to do something, you do it and don’t complain else I will rip out your tongue!” my father threatened me in anger and I shook my head in disbelief.

“So, this is it?” I rested my butts on my legs since I was still kneeling.

“You haven't seen me for six good years and when you called me back, you are about to sell me out to a beast! Is this the parenthood you brag about?” I cursed at their faces.

I knew I was worthless to them but they wouldn't have gone to this length. It was best that they killed me at this stage because I was never going to conform to whatever they wanted.

This time, I will never please them.

“You have just two days until the king arrives to pick you up, you better get ready!” my mother informed me.

“Now get out!” my father scowled at me, I bowed and left the hall with my face lowered to the ground.

I cursed myself for being weak and born into this family.

They treated me like a rag even when they were to coax me into doing what they wanted.

I was hopeless and helpless, no one could save me. Not even Tony and in the end, I will have to surrender to them.

If I had known this was the reason they wanted me back, I wouldn’t have come. I would have maybe run away or gone somewhere far from here.

I stopped walking when I saw a ground of maids gathered at a corner, they were discussing and I wondered what seemed interesting that they didn’t even notice me when I passed. I had to pause and listen to what they were saying. After all, servants are one of the best networks when it comes to information.

“Last week when King Moses visited, Lady Hilda joined our lord in the meeting hall.” one of the servants said.

“We are not supposed to talk about the king, if he hears this or sees us, we are dead.” another servant warned them.

“I want to hear the gist, please continue.” the other servant urged.

“According to Lady Hilda, the king isn’t handsome as he looked like a monster. She was never going to get married to him because he killed all his wives,” she said.

“I don’t understand.” everyone shook their head.

“What I meant was that Lady Hilda found favor in the eyes of the king and he instructed the lord to gift her to him if he wanted redemption,” she explained to them with a low voice, and my mouth opened in shock.

“What?” I gasped.
