Chapter 4

"YOU HAVE 5 MINUTES TO REPORT TO THE CAFETERIA," came a voice so loud it could deafen.

5 minutes? It takes more than five minutes to go down the stairs.

'How is that even......'

I looked around to see no one in the room, and then it hit me.

I might actually miss my food.

These people are insane enough to deprive someone of food over a little tardiness.

I ran down the stairs and through the basketball court, and I just kept following the crowd.

Why in the hell do we have to go through the basketball court to get to the cafeteria? Well, finally, we got to the cafeteria.

I was amazed at the number of people I saw there.

I walked around aimlessly, looking for somewhere to sit. No one else seemed to have that problem; they all knew where to sit.

I walked up to a table with just one person at it, and as I made my way to sit down,

"That seat is taken," she snarled without even looking at me.

The search for a seat continued as I tried to catch my breath from what seemed like a death race.

I noticed this table in the middle of the cafeteria that was a lot different from the rest; no one was sitting there, and it was golden, tall, and beautiful.

I sat comfortably and put my head on the table, patiently waiting for my food.

Suddenly, everywhere became shadowy.

I looked up to see six mean faces—two girls and four boys.

I immediately recognized Ava and Edward.

I should have known better.

Everywhere suddenly became quiet as all eyes were on me.

"Yo, ugly duckling, what do you think you're doing?" "Have you ever seen such a table in your life?" Roared Edward.

Too tired to speak, I just picked up my tray and walked away as everyone laughed.

I felt someone grab my arm.

No, it wasn't those mean kids.

It was Katie.

Oh, now she shows up.

I followed her to the table where she sat with Maya and Zaya.

"What's their problem?" It's just a table. What infuriated me the most was the fact that Edward was right—I'd truly never seen such a table before.

"It's the popular kids table, Jay; Edward's mom personally donated it to the school for her son and his friends; not to worry, with time you'll get to know all the cliques and where they sit."

"What of Ava?" "She's extremely rich too."

"Nahhh, she, Edward, and Matthew went to middle school together, so they've been friends since then. "I think she might be the only one who has a shot with Edward."

I nodded.

"Silence, it's serving time," came the same loud voice from the speakers as dozens of ladies walked in wearing complete maid attire with trays in their hands.

Finally.

They gave us five minutes to be in the cafeteria, but it took this long to start serving?

Clowns.

After eating, Katie and I decided to take a walk around the school so I could pick a team to tryout for or join a club.

"You should tryout for cheerleading, then we could be cheerleaders together."

"Forget it, Katie."

We walked for about five minutes, and then we stopped in front of a classroom.

Glasses everywhere.

"What club is this?" I asked, laughing.

'Book club'

"Next!" I yelled, still laughing.

We walked a few more steps.

"And this is?"

"The musical harmony club"

'Nope'

We walked for more than thirty minutes, and I still couldn't find a suitable club, yet we kept walking.

The ground started to vibrate, and as we got closer, the vibration increased.

I ran ahead of Katie and traced the vibration to a dance studio.

I gasped at what I saw.

It was wonderful; people were dancing to hip-hop. I was amazed.

I didn't even hesitate.

Dancing has always been my thing; I've been dancing since I was four.

I ran to the sign-up board and wrote my name swiftly as Katie caught up with me.

"I didn't know this kind of dance was allowed in a school for proper ladies and gentlemen," I asked Katie.

"Well, the thing is, Edward and Matthew are in this club; in fact, they own it."

'What!!!? Why didn't you tell me?

"You didn't let me, Jay."

"You know what, let's do cheerleading together; I want to do cheerleading," I said as I tried to erase my name.

"The problem is you can't erase your name from the board, Jay."

How wonderful.

Now I have to see the jerk every day.

What an awkwardly long day.

I woke up this morning at the sound of the first alarm.

There was no way I was going to go through hell again.

I took a shower, put on my uniform, and did the needful.

It was time for the usual line-up, and Miss Genevieve began.

'Girls!, "Today, be proper ladies." "Jessica, make your stockings equal," she said, taking her time to find a fault in our dressing.

Soon enough, it was over, and she left using the elevator as everyone sluggishly walked to the stairs.

I let everyone get a head start, and then I grabbed Katie by the elbow.

"Katie, why don't we ditch the stairs and take the elevator?"

"I don't think we're allowed to do that, Jeanne."

"Come on "No one will notice."

I'm the best when it comes to being persuasive.

She hesitated a little and finally succumbed.

As expected.

Into the elevator we went.

I pushed the button for the first floor.

It went up.

Why the hell was it going up when I asked it to go down?

"I thought this was the last floor," I asked.

"The roof, Jay." "The roof is next," replied Katie, clearly panicking.

It stopped and started to go down.

There we go.

Peace was restored.

We moved for about thirty seconds, and then

It stopped again.

I didn't even know what floor we were on.

"Why did it stop Jay?" "Why?" yelled Katie, tapping my hands repeatedly as she had her panic attack.

"Uhmm, I think you're forgetting that we are both in this elevator together."

If we didn't get out in time, we were definitely going to be in big trouble.

Even worse,

Miss breakfast.

Yay me.
