Chapter Fifty Six

"Hello, Jane, what's up? I just called to inform you that you haven't sent in your RSVP. Are you coming tonight?" I asked her.

There was a pause at the other side of the line. I was getting agitated by her silence, but I chose to remain calm. I realized that if things go well between me and Josh, she will end up being my sister-in-law.

"I don't need to send you because I'm going to be there, and I'm coming with a plus one," she replied and hung up on me. I stared at the phone in amusement, shaking my head at her behavior. The mix of anticipation, frustration, and amusement lingered in the air after the call.

Ignoring Jane's sudden and short answer, I concentrated on getting everything ready for Josh's pre-birthday dinner. The evening was getting closer, and I was a bit nervous about how the night would go.
