Chapter Four

Chapter 4

Percy POV

“Now that you’ve helped him be a guard dog you can very much leave right now.” I slammed the door behind me. She did not just say that? What was she trying to do? Provoke me.

“Fuck!!” I cursed running my hand through my hair. Give it to Eden for being foul mouthed, she knew that those words weren’t what I wanted to hear, she knew it would piss me off, heck it would piss anyone off.

After she fell into me last night, I didn’t expect her to tell me to take her wherever. She was wasted and out of her mind, she babbled in short breaths and few words, this was her coping with all that had happened. Her father had told me about her mother passing away and from the look in her eyes, I could tell that Eden was wrecked by all of it.

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Few days back

“What do you want Henry?” I glanced up from my laptop computer and focused on the man in front of me. Even at sixty, Henry Maverick was a man in his prime, his silky black hair neatly styled, his suit fitted him well and his face carried the entire presence of the Maverick industry with him. He may have not remember me when I was way younger but I remember him.

“Percy, it’s about time you did me that favor.” My eyes narrowed and my jaw tightened, Henry was a sneaky bastard who would use whatever means to get what he want.

“You can’t go back on your word Percy -“ he added confidently, he was using this card against me. “This is what you tied yourself too after that day.”

“I know.” I replied clasping my hands together, there was no way to go around it, I made a deal with the devil of a man Henry Maverick and now I had to keep my side of the bargain.

“Whats the deal?” I replied giving him the answer that set His lips parted into a grin that sent chills.

“No need to break a sweat, it’s all easy, my daughter Eden is coming back to town in-“ my brows narrowed in at the mention of Eden. I haven’t heard that name since middle school, the girl who left with no words.

“E-“ I stopped myself from saying her name. “What does she have to do with this?” I leaned back in my seat and studied the man in front of him, just what was he planning?

“She’s going to do what she has been born to do.” He replied vaguely.

“And what is that? Be a pawn in your game?” I challenged loosening the grip of my tie, this conversation was getting tensed. “She is your daughter, you can’t just use her like a tool.”

“It’s not your business what I do with my daughter, all you need to do is play your part.” He replied carefully.

“What is that part?” My curiosity was getting the best of me, what did he want her to do? What did Henry want him to do.

“Get married to her.” He said casually. It was impossible to hide the shock on my face, covering it up with a low sigh, I leaned forward.

“No.” I leaned back in my seat and directed my eyes back to the screen. Some part of me wished I could ignore him by paying attention to my screen but it wasn’t that easy, Henry Maverick can’t be ignored.

“Percy, you know this isn’t a request.” Henry stated.

“Why? Why are you needing my help now that E- she is involved?” I needed to know why.

“Eden needs help, her mother’s business is going to crumble to the ground and you can help her.” It sounds simple but it wasn’t. There was something more. It couldn’t be this basic, there was a bigger picture that I couldn’t see.”

“Why don’t you help her? She’s your daughter, Emilia was your wife.” My voice was harsh.

“What I do with my family is my business Percy, don’t cross the line.” He warned me

“Tch-“ my jaw tucked in annoyance. It was how carefree and determined he was that was setting me off.

“What happens if I don’t marry Eden?” it wasn’t just a question, it was a dare.

“Then I’ll find someone else who will- and I’ll make sure you pay for going back on your word.” He replied steadily, his eyes pierced mine in a unspoken battle of dominance. “You know what that means Percy.”

“Fine.” I gritted out. Henry’s lips tore out in a menacing smile and it made me want to hurl the laptop at him.

“Good.” He rose from the chair and buttoned his suit, taking one last sweep of my office he left.

…………………………………

Now Eden didn’t hide off her hatred towards me, she was sure that I was her fathers dog. Nothing I would say to her would make her see me differently. Moving across the large bedroom, I walked into the washroom, gripping both hands on the sink I stared at my reflection.

Eden Maverick.

Fifteen years since I last saw her. Her eyes, hair that I pulled, lips I never imagined to kiss until now.

And now- my mind drifted off to her body. From the black dress she was wearing at the bar, the slick materials that hugged her curvy body, every piece of her was inviting. She has changed, but she still had traces of the girl I know fifteen years back.

In all, Eden Maverick is hot and my body agrees.

“Fuck!” I cursed pushing the image of her away from my head. “Don’t think about the girl who hate you,” I reminded myself. She called you a dog. That was enough to snap back to the painful reality. If she wanted to see me as the villain, she was going to get it in the purest version.

“If that’s the game you want to play Eden, two can play.”
